Question about 2004 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

Was caught out in a VERY bad storm in my 04 Durango. Got almost home and transmission would not shift. Let it sit for a while, went to start her up to see of the problem had resolved and she was very slow to turn over. Had to keep cranking her 4-6 times. When she started the idle was running at 2000 rpm, after a bit it went down but only slightly. Now she is still hard to start, and idle still runs at 1500 in neutral, and 1000 rpm when in gear? What could this problem be.

The problem may correct itself after allowing the vehicle to dry out. You may have gotten moisture in an electronic component that may be interfering with normal operation. Check all of your connections for water or condensation. That would be a good place to start.

This is a fuel pump issue. i would replace it and the lines as well.also, a minor tune up wouldn't hurt as well. wires plugs distributor cap points etc...

Sometimes when I go to start my 99 dodge durango it would start, and I move the gear shift a little and it turns right on, over times when it wont start I have to sit there for ten minutes, try it again...

If it seemed to start doing this about the same time transmission was replaced, then I'd have installer adjust/test neutral safety switch at transmission for either being defective or just out of adjustment. If your going to try adjusting it yourself, get back to me for proper procedure. Not knowing how long since transmission was changed, I'm guessing the installer would adjust free of charge, at least they should .
Please include engine size and transmission ( 2 wheel drive or 4x4) info when replying.

04 Dogde Durango temp light keeps coming on

i would start with the thermostant it may be sticking but also if this has electric cooling fan then there may be a problem with the fan, i think if a thermostant was bad that driving fast would just make it overheat more, but a bad fan would cause this affect because when driving the air is cooling the radiator, also make sure the coolant is full as this could also cause the symptom, hope this helps, also to change the thermostant and bleed the system i would have some shop do this it is very tight spot to get bolts out and then clean surface for new gasket,

It sounds like a tork conveter lockup switch, have the transmisson serviced oil and filter changed then and add Lucas transmisson treatment to help smooth out hte shifting pattern and stop the problem if there was drag on the clutches it may have stalled out.

Dodge Durango Transmission Problem

Code 0753 means Transmission 3-4 shift solenoid or transmission relay circuit problem. The PCM (engine computer) is seeing an incorrect input electrically for the gear or speed it should be seeing. You will need to find a qualified transmission shop to diagnose the problem. Possible causes for the trouble code start with worn/dirty fluid, electrical repairs & transmission overhaul.

Try shifting the trans manually through the gears and see what happens, doesnt cost anything so,possibility valves are sticking in the valvebody after sitting so long, and manually shifting the car will force some of them to stroke in their bores unless REALLY stuck.Could also be shift solenoids.Scan for diagnostic trouble codes.A bad solenoid will have set a trouble code.Just FYI,1991 was the first year Ford went to all electronic trans,i had a 91 Sable.
