Question about Cars & Trucks
X5 E70 3.0 SI. Hard starting and so far I had the starter replaced and had the fuel pump replaced with an original BMW fuel pump after my mechanic advised me to do so. The car started first time on the first morning, but the next day the engine cranked three times before it started. The evening when I wanted to pull the car inside the garage, it refused to start. The next morning it cranked and cranked and did not start. Later when it was warmer, it started without a fuss. This morning again it refused. I sent a low bed to go and fetch the car to take it back to the mechanic.

How long did you charge the battery? If was completely dead a five minute jump won't do it. Let battery JUMP charge for at least 20 minutes and have other person helping you do the jump rev his engine while you start the beamer.

I have a simmilar problem.
The diesel injector is most likely leaking. Diagnistics should show, but a leak test is more acurate. If you find out that one or two injector are leaking, i would change the all in one go. I changed 2 and 2 in 8 months.

We had a 2001 X5. When the Fuel gauge hit 1/4, it was time to fill up or you were stranded. I think it's the pump if it is below 1/4. We also received error engine codes when this happened. All you have to do after you refuel is to reset the code (drive with the code for awhile, it will reset after a few miles) and you're alright. The pump is somewhat expensive to change out if you take it to the dealer.
