I got an engine light 83 84 85 what this means shifting from two to third gear is something like pulling before it shift

You have an issue that Toyota knows about; there is a programming problem with the ECM in the vehicle, and Toyota has released a Tech Service Bulletin (TC015-07) to cure your problem.
You probably have a DTC code of P-2716...The ECM needs replaced with an updated unit.
PLUS: this repair should be covered for 96 months of use, or up to 80,000 miles. The replacement ECU will be installed totally for free. Call your local Toyota dealer & get an appointment.

There is a small button on the gear shifter. This is the OverDrive switch. When the button is depressed "IN", the overdrive system is active, and the light on the dash is off. When the button is OUT, the overdrive system is de-activated, and the light on the dash is illuminated. The OverDrive is basically the final shift of the transmission, which gives you maximum fuel economy. When the light on the dash is ON, the OD is "OFF", the transmission will not make its final shift, and will lower your fuel economy. It is best to leave the button IN, and have the OD system active. SOURCE: no break light, can not shift gear.

your brake light switch has failed. this will also allow you to shift out of park when you hit the brake pedal. when you hit the brake pedal the brake light should come on and the shift interlock solenoid will activate(you might hear a clicking sound under the dash or near the shift handle) allowing you to shift out of park.

SOURCE: no light in gear shifting pad

If it's a flood shift under the pad where it reads P-R-N-D-2-1 will be a small light bulb under that, your will have to remove the shell to get to it, not very hard job to do.

Here is what the service manual says about the EPC solenoid, the processor looks at allot of different inputs to command the solenoids, such as Throttle Position Sensor, Vehicle Speed Sensors, Transmission Range Sensor and RPM signal, The PCM controls the shift patterns for the transmission. Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) Solenoid
The electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid is located on the main control valve body and is controlled by the PCM. The EPC controls line pressure used to apply and release clutches and bands in the transmission.
The 2-3 shift solenoid is located on the main control valve body and is switched on and off by electrical signals from the PCM. The 2-3 shift solenoid activates the 2-3 shift valve which controls the automatic shifting between second and third gear. Second gear is established when the 2-3 shift solenoid is switched on. The 2-3 shift solenoid is switched off when vehicle speed increases and requires a second to third gear upshift.
The 3-4 shift solenoid is located on the main control valve body and is switched on and off by electrical signals from the PCM. The 3-4 shift solenoid activates the 3-4 shift valve which controls the automatic shifting between third and fourth gear. Third gear is established when the 3-4 solenoid is switched off. The 3-4 shift solenoid is switched on when vehicle speed increases and requires a third to fourth gear upshift.

My friend, it definitely NOT a synchronizer. Those are on the tranny shafts are brass with same teeth as the gear they're on, and are sloped to slow each gear to a stop when shifting into each gear, so rule that out. Think about it, if its stuck in 3rd, but you can still move the shifter to the other positions, then most likely it is only the shift fork on 3rd gear has somehow slipped out of its connection to the shifter rail or it's the connection is broken off. Since the shifter is on top of the trans, you can remove the console and covers to see if the shifter and cover is removable without pulling the trans to see what has gone wrong. Otherwise, you will have to pull the trans to fix that situation. Don't sweat it my friend, it could be something simple. P0700 just tells you that there is a transmission fault code stored in the Transmission control module, you must now have that tested by the dealer.

1999 dodge ram 1500 5.2 liter, auto, 2 wheel Trans ran perfectly ...then stopped shifting from second to third. wouldn't change gears, even manually. i checked all connections into trans, checked trans...


1999 dodge 1500 5.2 will not shift to second once the engine reaches normal temperture or I shift from drive to nutural and back to drive then it will work fine untill the next time I stop. filter, fluid, shift slenoid,governor sensor have been replaced.

Engine spudders when changing gears


The mechanic should check on the gears form N, R, P, 1st gear, second, third gear of the transmission . you also have to check the oil seals of the gears of the transmission.Don't forget to check also the shift level and the shift fork of the transmission.check the said gears ,the shift fork ,the shift level and the oil seals if they are worn out or destroyed you should replace them.Most of the time if the engine spudders when changing in gears it means that there is a problem in the oil seals of the transmission gears . Don't forget to check also the transmission bearing to be sure. Because it is spuddering .

there is a problem on the shift gear or shift lever check and adjust ,this is in the transmission assembly.

1998 chevy k1500 4x4 4 speed auto.transmission wont shift out of 2nd gear. shifts fine from 1st to 2nd first and reverse is fine wont shift out of first, shift servos have been replaced.


Had a similar problem with same model pickup but would shift into third only after reaching high RPM in second @5000. There was TSB that came out about this a few years ago. I had to replace the valve body in the transmission to fix the problem and worked perfectly after that. Hope this helps!

Down shifting


if you are going to fast and down shift of course its a grind maybe your suppose to be on 4th gear not third gear so that means you need to shift to 3rd.
