its bad, check fuses. if the fuses are good the head end player
needs service.
best is to upgrade to media center with USB and use only dirt cheap
FLASH memory for music, CDs are dying,
we rip;ours to mp3 and parked the CDs in the attic for eternity;.

RTM.

if fuses are good, post back, that they are or, ask how to test fuses
a tech knows , fuse that look good, can in fact be bad.
fuse that look bad, for sure are.
we use a DMM on ohms to test all suspected fuse. (100% accurate)

if the DEVICE , uses CIG power, and is dead, the CIG fuse is blown.
see the manual above.

This sounds like you do not have full usb functionality and it is diverting to the aux input. when aux is used you have to control the play and sound etc from the actual mp3 player and not the audio controls

CD player in a 2005 XC90 volvo

Sorry, It's not reparable. You have to change it the new one. This price is very high. If your car hasn't warranty, I suggest you, use a portable DVD-USB player with an FM trasmitter in your car. I know it isn't sounds good, but I had the same problem and I have changed the CD player to a new one (it was terrible prize, of course) and I never use CD and DVD since that time. I use mp3 -usb combo only and i haven't any problem. I hope this help.
