My 2004 ford explorer keeps blowing the ignition fuse also i noticed that my windshield wipers also stopped working

You have a short to ground on that circuit ,the only way to find it is to find a wiring diagram an see what all gets power from that fuse .Then isolate each circuit until the fuse doesn't blow any more . Go to youtube an check out some videos on finding a short on automotive wiring . Also I suggest you check out some videos on basic automotive electrical trouble shooting . Finding an fix automotive electrical shorts is best left to a automotive electrical repair shop !

Click on the link.
Voltage for fuse 18 comes from, pcm power relay.
Terminal 30, load side of relay is fuse protected and hot all the time. If you unplug that relay and use jumper wire between terminal 30 and 87, fuse 18 should go hot. That should mean, the control side of relay has a problem, The control side needs voltage and ground.

Troubleshooting wiring can be a difficult task when your doing it much less telling someone else to. If your blowing a fuse you need to find out what that fuse runs. The best bet would be to get a book on the vehicle and see what circuit is blowing.

You will want to start by looking for wires that are burnt or touching the exhuast. They dont even have to be on the same circuit for it to matter. As an example if the o2 sensor wire on a v6 f150 burns on the exhuast it will blow the transmission fuse and sometimes the pcm fuse.

Engine stopped while running - will turn over but not start- replaced pcm fuse - started and ran awhile - replaced fuel pump relay and pcm fuse - engine will turn over but will not start.

Generally when a PCM fuse pops it means either the wire to the PCM is shorted or the PCM itself has a short in it. If this is a short in the fuel system its most likey the connector or the pump itself.

Have this checked with another scan tool. Link error is produced when the PCM fails to respond to the scan tool. More times than not this is the PCM failing.
