Question about 1994 Ford Probe

1 Answer

I was wondering if anyone could tell me where the cold start cyllenoid is on a 1994 ford probe gt. i was also wondering where a couple of the sensors were i.e. Heat sensor, Idle air control sensor, and the throttlebody sensor. The reason is that after my car warms up it starts to bog down really bad when i hit the gas from a stop especially. I have to be extra extra light on the gas or it goes absolutely nowhere and just sits and sputters. Also if I have the overdrive on it seems to have trouble shifting into high gear when I am going around 40 mph or so. Usually it is fine when I amcruising around 55 and up. Also just recently (today) I had it in reverse and it started sputtering worse than normal while I was waiting for a car to pass and the rpms dropped under the first line and it almost died. It has never done that before. Please help i am at my wits end!!!

I replaced the fuel filter, and I am not sure how to check the timing. There is also a Mondo hole in the top of the resonator, but that was there before this problem started.

Your timing belt may have jumped time or maybe the catalytic converter is plugged up. I doubt you have a transmission problem. You could also have a plugged up fuel filter.

Is there a simple way to tell if a crank sensor on a 1996 ford probe gt 24 valve engine is stopping it from starting?

If you have fuel injector pulse, engine cranking, I don't think the crank sensor is your problem. Just my opinion.

My ford probe gt was going down the road, died as i was driving it. will not start

You will need to find out if you lost spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors to proceed.
Let me know if you need more info.

1994 Ford Probe GT Transmission

OK..............There is no transmission fluid just clutch fluid. Its in a small reservoir on the firewall. I think you have a worn clutch or it needs the lines adjusted. If the clutch doesn't engage until the pedal it almost at the top then you need to adjust it or replace it. The cleaner you put in is irrelevant to your problem. There is gear oil in the transmission though but that's not the problem either. The clutch cable is easy to adjust, just loosen the lock nut and spin the cable adjuster until the pedal feels right. Hope this helps :)

How do I find and troubleshoot the thermostat in my 1994 ford probe GT?

The thermostat is in the coolant pipe above the transmission. The large metal pipe coming up from the lower rad hose attaches to the thermostat/water distribution block, this is located under and to the engine side of the air-filter box.

There are a couple bolts holding the pipe to the block, and the thermostat is located right at this flange. If the vehicle overheats, even if the rad fans come on, it is likely that the thermostat is not opening. If the vehicle never heats up fully, especially on cold days, it is possible it is stuck open.

Once out of the car, a thermostat can be checked by placing it in hot water (for this car usually over 180 deg F/ 82 deg C) and it should open.

1994 Ford Probe GT 2.5L V6 Engine check light comes on at around 80kmh and engine seems to lose power. Any ideas what may be causing this? MAP sensor? EGR? MAS air flow?

most likely you have a problem with your vacuum system. the check engine light is mainly for emission problems. it could the MAS airflow sensor as well though...

1994 Ford Probe GT - Uncontrollable Revving

ok, this is simple to do but I would get the Chilton for your car so you can have pictures of what to do. You can get the chilton at the parts store, or the library. It sounds like a throtle body sensor or the throtle body itself, but could also be your air idle control sensor. go down and buy some mass air flow sensor cleaner and a BIG can of carb cleaner. First clean the mass air flow sensor neer the air filter. then remove the throtle body it is held in by 4 botls and you may need a new gasket, NO GASKET GLUE. Now take that big old can of carb cleaner and start cleaning in and out. also down into manifold. clean everything. Now put it back together, remember 4 bolts and no gasket glue. if the problem continues replace the throtle body sensor. and then the idle air intake. It will be cheaper to take it into the part store and have them put it on the computer. They can often tell you what sensor it is ahead of all this but don't let this stop you from cleaning out the throtle body, it will make your car run better and longer.

95 ford probe se auto. trans. shifts back and forth from 3rd and 4th gear once on hwy. suspect o/d switch or speed/shifting sensors. any ideas?

I own a 1995 Ford Probe SE 2.0L that suffered the same problem. The transmission shop Techs insisted the transmission was blown and needed replaced. After doing some research it turn out to be the Park Neutral Switch also known as a Transmission Range Sensor right below the air box. The part cost 54 bucks. The problem stopped after replacing it. About a year latter the problem came back. After doing some more research it turn out to be the VSS speed sensor. The part cost 57 bucks. The problem stopped after replacing it.
