I would suggest having someone check the circuits at the key switch. The switch could be going bad. The check engine and other warning lights must come on as a self-test when you turn the key on, then go off once the engine starts.
Could be the crank sensor is bad but If the check engine light does NOT come on when cranking at the times
when it won't start, then your ECU is in need of repair. The engine will
only start after the check engine light comes on and the ecu is what
controls that. It's likely going bad, causing the delayed start problem
typical of early 90's jeeps. Repair or replacement services for your
jeep ECU are available on ebay.
Hi Trye, If the vehicle starts and the engine check fails to come on the lamp may have blown? If so you'll need to take out the instrument panel to replace it. If it fails to come on and the vehicle fails to start, replace the EFI fuse and try again. Regards John
Your jeep is suffering from what is called the "delayed check engine light problem". Your main computer ecu is in need of repair. Some internal components, ones that normally send power to energize the various engine relays, have gone bad from age. Have the ecu repaired. That services is offered on ebay.
