Do you have vehicle repair experience?

No one can guess at that question

You know the vehicle has to be tested to find something

Testimonial: "it keeps putting out different codes 100 105 106 106pd 443 443pd and they vary each time last time 106 443 this time all of the above it runs fine then its like the fuel cuts off. I put a new tps sensor,a used pressure sensor and I put a used maf sensor a couple of years ago .just looking for some thoughts maybe from someones past experiences thanks."

Check The Vehicle Speed Sensors.

The Legacy has 2 Vehicle Speed Sensors (VSS): VSS1 is located inside of the transaxle; VSS2 is located in the combination meter assembly.

VSS1

  1. Disconnect the electrical harness from the transaxle.
  2. Connect an ohmmeter across the transaxle's electrical harness terminals 9 and 16.
  3. The resistance should be 450-650 ohms.
  4. After testing, reconnect the electrical harness.
VSS2
  1. Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument panel.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the speedometer cable from the instrument cluster.
  3. Connect an ohmmeter or continuity tester across the combination meter terminals 7 and 11.
  4. Insert a small screwdriver in the speedometer cable drive socket.
  5. Rotate the speedometer drive and note the continuity across the VSS terminal. Continuity should turn ON/OFF 4 times per speedometer drive revolution.

SOURCE: Clutch replacement details for 1996 legacy GTB

Trust me it is quite an excercise and not worth doing yourself. With the proper tools, a hoist and a my mate who is a Guru Subaru Mech it took 4 hours. Without having done it before and without the Hoist ( which is wha I was going to do initially ) I'd say you wouldn't get much change out of 8 - 12 hours.

1996 Outback Legacy quitting while driving down road.

I would check the cam and crank position sensor, these are definitely the symptoms of a bad crank sensor.

I have the same problem. It was the camshaft sensor. After replacing the problem was solved. A malfunctioned crank sensor can give the same problem

Transmission

most of these are eletronic transmissions be sure to check the wire connections and look for nicks or cuts in the wires which would prevent the trans from going into gear
