Check the lines going into the radiator at the bottom, drivers side. Those are the transmission cooler lines & one might have sprung a leak. They're both rubber to metal.

What is the good idling for a car driving at 40mph? Because it idles at 2000 rpm's and I think thats a little high? the car is 97 toyota camry 4 cyl 2.2. Also after I stop it has a certain smell. Good...

A car cannot idle when you are driving, the term "idle" is only used when the car is stopped and motionless. You mean the the car's RPM's are at 2000 when driving at 40mph. The RPM's are normal at that speed and you cannot change it unless you change the gear ratios inside your Transaxle.

The smell you are referring to may be a oil leak of some sort, you may need to look on the ground after you are parked awhile and see if there is fluid leaking and try to determine what type of fluid it is so you can trace what component is leaking.

Check engine light is on, and when i go past 40 it stops running. doesnt turn off just stops running.

check transmission fluid level.if fluid level okay, transmission fluid and filter been changed. code scan for ecm faults.sound like problem in the transmission torque converter.leaking valve body gasket or faulty valve body and bad oil pump losing pressure not enough oil pressure to get transmission in drive or over drive.

Leak after snow storm color yellow , tried to drive it today but sleping gear does not pass 40. it feels like im driving on neutral.

Probably there is a big leak in your trans lines, trans pan gasket or radiator trans cooling lines. trans fluid become yellow mix with snow or ice.

1996 plymouth voyager steering wheel squeaks when it is turned

You need some power steering fluid. Fill to line markers on power fluid tank while car is off. Start car turn steering wheel all the way to the left then all the way to the right until squealling stops. If it does not stop check fluid level and if it needs add more.Put a cardboard box flat under the car to check for leaks. If no leaks continue filling to line marker until squealing stops.

Car is leaking fluid under driver's side - checked the oil levels and it seems fine... (i drive a 97 toyota camry) in addition, i blotted tissue on the leak - it seems like it was almost a dark red,...

A dark red or burgundy color fluid most likely means you have a transmission fluid leak.

Warm you car up for 5-10 minutes and check your transmission fluid level while it's running and you will likely find it to be low.

My 96 toyota camry smokes when i start it .

automotive shops sell this stuff called honey. Its super thick oil that might slow down the leak. If the leak is coming from your oil pan try tightening the 10 or twelve small bolts around the oil pan. only go a half a turn on each so you dont smash your gasket or seal.

Oil leak problem with 1996 toyota camry

I am going to see a mechanic - my trusted mechanic who does not nickel and dime me - to see what this is. I have the same problem and he told me he has never done this job on a Camry and is unsure. Given the miles, he has suggested that maybe it is time to part ways with the car. I am going to ask him if he will put some florescent dye in it and let me drive it for 50-100 mi and then check to see where the leak is and fix it. Let you know what happens. I have to try, the car is solid.
