The book is called a FSM.
or read the alldata.com page.
and it will ask you , what engine. we dont know what engine here.
3.0 or 3.8L ? or?
and if you had a leak , why not post a photo of it.?
get it hot, and it will leak, all engine hot have 14psi cooling pressure and if there are leak points they leak. and are easy to see and photo them. the object that leaks is the #1 clue as to what is bad.
gaskets or hoses , seals. or even a leaking head gasket.

all freeze plugs (stock) and not a block heater look like
a shallow cup, use google image ask those easy question using that.
here:
https://www.google.com/search?q=freeze+plugs&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=znRzU5TkHZbk8AXi94GABA&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAg&biw=1280&bih=611

ignore the rubber fake ones.

post the engine size?
post a photo of the leak?
better find a friend that can see car. look, touch and advise.

if you had known the engine size, youd have googled that too.
see whats there.
or login at alldata.com

ALL water cooled engine have lots of places to leak
and more important, watch it live leaking
because
leaking hose (and other things) can squirt and FOOL you.
so look LIVE and SEE the truth.

There is a open ended pipe that runs above engine oil intake, the other end has a hose connected to it? mines leaking fluid thinking gas

Catch what is dripping and see if it smalls of gas, oil or water. Whatever it is I doubt it should not be open ended and should have a hose attached to it that goes somewhere.

Sounds a bit like an Oil Breather Pipe at that diameter.

Take a look at these.

Why is your transmission fluid dripping from my Cadillac converter

Hi there.
Well its a hard one as it could be the hose from the radiator to gearbox leaking cause either cracked or loose connection either on radiator OR on pipe 1/2 way down above the converter
Start engine, run till you see a drip, stop engine check bottom of radiator connection pipe for leak if none check pipe down towards gearbox to find a crack.

What is the problem when there is oil dripping from the exhaust pipe

Oil? Or condensation mixed with carbon inside the exhaust? Oil coming out would be a very bad sign of serious engine damage. Condensation is normal, and sometimes looks like oil, but it isn't. Do the drops you see dry up after a while?, that would be condensation, and that is just fine. If the drips never dry up, that's oil, and time for a new engine

Engine diagram 1997 buick skylark/thermostat

follow the water inlet pipe to water pump the thermostat housing connects to water pump this is for 2.4l engine you have to remove exhaust manifold heat shield.you will see the water inlet pipe going to water pump inlet thermostat housing.for the 3.1 engine follow top radiator hose to thermostat housing you have to remove air filter air duct and filter housing , you have to remove throttle body unit with coolant hoses, you have to disconnect accelerator cable, transmission down shift cables at the bracket bolts to throttle body.once you remove throttle body unit then you can see and remove the thermostat housing to replace thermostat.you need to buy new throttle body gasket, and new small coolant hoses connects to the throttle body unit.have extra gallon antifreeze dexcool on hand.

  6. Install the thermostat housing cover to the water pipe. The water feed pipe has a locating tab to assure proper alignment.
  7. Install a new thermostat housing cover seal into the recess groove.

Water leak drips on leftside but is not from water pump. seems to come from back side and runs tword the front, shows wet down low and in back close to firewall.

There is a metal pipe on the back head that has coolant in it going to the heater core. Also there are also small rubber hoses (2) on the driver side toward the rear of the engine. Run your hand under the above listed items to see if you can feel coolant. If the above don't show any leak then it could be a head gasket leaking to the outside of the engine. Good Luck

Car overheating

Check whether water is coming out of the air bleeder pipe behind the carburator. If not, the heater unit water flow is blocked. You can notice this when turning off the engine. You can hear the water grumbling. at the back of the engine. Normally when it overheats the water flows back to the expansion tank and water will overflow through the cap. Make sure you are bleeding the air well after working on the water system of this car.
