Why does a red light come up on the dash board saying a transmission malfunction on my focus 08

The light is on because something has malfunctioned in the transmission system, this can be a sensor or wiring or the transmission has a mechanical fault. The next step is to have a scanner hooked up and read the fault code that was set in the control modules memory when it turned on the warning light. This may require a trip to the local dealer.

I have a 1997 Honda Accord SE 4 Cylinder with a check engine light on. I had a mechanic run a diagnostic and it came back with code p0740, torque converter clutch circuit malfunction. What does this mean?

The torque converter is a key functional part of the automatic transmission. The car computer detected a malfunction and set the P0704 code. Most likely you have over 100k miles already so it could be problems with the transmission. Most mechanics will reset the light and code if you are not having any transmission problems. It the problem comes back you will need to service or replace the transmission. Best thing to do is to take the car to a mechanic you trust and find the best and cheapest way to address the malfunction.

Sounds like a loose or burnt wire going from the transmission to the engine. Please try to remember who changed the oil last and ask them if they will look for a loose or burnt wire. The professional oil changers get in a hurry and might have hit an important wire to the transmission. How many miles would help answer the question more thoroughly.

check the fluid and all the wiring plugs going to the transmission.it is not uncommon for oil to drip onto a plug and cause bad readings,or vacuum lines that are cracked.
