Sorry cobber but in europe we do not have this car ,well thats a lie we do its the body shell but thats it ,ours are diesel or a smaller 4cyl lump ,But i would be inclined to look at the clutch cable to see if its catching on anything also the mechanism under the dash where the pedal control for the throttle is ,could be something simple like the carpet catching and when you push the clutch down its pushing up under the throttle pedal somehow ,remember the classic years ago of the woman moaning about petrol consumption ,----- she was hanging her handbag on the manual choke cable ?? or the american woman who rented a car at heathrow airport and drove to cornwall stuck in first gear and she thought it was a auto so check the carpet under the dash you never know ,greetings from spain by the way

High idle when air con On 3000rpm

The IAC valve is controlled by the ECU. The IAC or Idle Air control valve, adjusts depending on information that the ECU receives from several engine related sensors. You need to look at everything that you can. Inspect all wiring and connections, around the engine. Look for damaged vacuum lines and if you know how to, look for air leaks going into the head. If unmetered air gets into the engine, bypassing the TAC unit. Then the ECU will not be able to make correct adjustments. Also look at the coolant level, temp, and condition. The long and short of it is that the ECU oversees the engine speed. Depending on different parameters, turning on the A/C sends a signal to the ECU that the engine load has been increased. Depending on other information (whether it is correct or not) the engine speed is increased to maintain engine speed. I hope this information helps but if not please write back. Be as specific and detailed as you can and I'll do my best, good luck.

My 1988 Daihatsu Feroza is having some issues changing gears. when i take my foot off the accelerator and press the clutch in, it revs up about a grands worth, instead of the revs going down. this happened...

The issue is one of over-fast idling. First thing is to check coolant level in the engine. Make sure that the coolant is at the 'max' in the reservoir (1:1 mix of water : antifreeze). Low coolant would preve nt the ECU from detecting the car is at operational temperature. When the car is cold the ECU extends injection times to keep the car running but when warmed up the injection times are again shortened to reduce engine speed at idle. Also at idle, the Idle air control valve (IAC) on the throttle opens to allow air to by-pass the closed throttle plate. Check that as the engine gets warm that the coolant hoses to the throttle body become warm (showing that no blockage is preventing coolant circulation). Check that IAC air passage is clear and that valve can open freely. If the IAC coolant hoses are blocked or the valve is jammed open this would account for the very high idle speed. If everything looks OK check the PCV hose from the valve cover to the throttle and make sure that there are no blockages in it.

Hi,Volvo s40 engine revs up to 3000rpm by itself, and will also drop in revs from tick over, then just cut out.Any suggestions would be appreciated cheers

Sound like the idle air control valve(IAC) is dodge, could try taking off and cleaning with carb cleaner, while doing that take off hose by throttle body and also clean in there inc butterfly, go and give it a good blast down the motorway !!

Revs up and down at low revs

you need to clean or replace your idle air control valve(IAC). The IAC allows your engine to idle smoothly by opening and closing a valve that allows air flow to the engine that is monitored by the computer. The IAC get dirty causing it to stick and move slower than it should which causes the up and down idle

Engine light on wont go over 3000rpm or under 2000rpm

Try the IAC valve this regulates the idle.
