3.0L Engine

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2. Remove the right front fender apron seal.
  3. Remove the v-bank cover.
  4. Disconnect the inlet radiator hose.
  5. Remove the front upper center suspension brace sub-assembly.
  6. Remove the air cleaner assembly with the hose.
  7. Remove the intake air surge tank, as follows:
    1. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
    2. Remove the bolt, and disconnect the speed control cable with the bracket.
    3. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector.
    4. Disconnect the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connector.
    5. Remove the 3 bolts, and disconnect the PS pressure tube From the intake air surge tank, throttle body bracket and No.1 engine hanger.
    6. Disconnect the 2 water bypass hoses and No.6 air hose.

L. Using an 8 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and intake air surge tank.

  1. Remove the ignition coil. For more details, refer to the Engine Electrical Section.
    1. Remove the right and/or left cylinder head cover sub-assemblies, as follows:
    1. Using a E6 Torx® wrench, remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the engine wire protector, if necessary.
    2. Remove the 9 bolts and cylinder head cover.

    1. Thoroughly clean the gasket mating surfaces.

    heads can generally be removed in car
    next set the valve timing before removing the belt. check and record the position of the cam timing marks

    read the TSB on this engine and recalls>? for head gasket ?
    best is not to guess. do it right. an use the sequence chart.

    most HG fail soon after for not doing the 3 tests.
    warp head, warp deck, and surface conditions.

    better the FSM and all TSB on head.
    here is one on site spec. for both motors.
    2AZ-FE/D and/or 2AZ-FE/E Step 1: 52 ft. lbs. Step 2: plus 90 degrees my wild guess INSTALL and not removal? unsaid.
    front is left here, cam cog side left
    INSTALL SEQUENCE.

    F 8,6,1,2,9
    F10,4,2,5,7

    F= front or #1 cylinder end.

    take down is different order. (its aluminum, nothing trivial)
