Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a '95 1500 350 5.7L GMC Yukon in which it will not CRANK when attempting to start engine. This far, I replaced battery and starter but to only discover the problem still persist..Fuel pump was replaced a couple weeks back so I ruled that factor out as well. I exhausted all my known options and am seeking help. Can anyone advise me of more troubleshoot/diagnosis insight that may help out thanks!

Check to see if your getting a spark...You can take a spark plug out then attach the wire back on it...Get someone to turn the motor over...Doing it at night works better because you can see it spark..If you don't see spark lighting up then it could be your electronic ignition is bad or your computer module is bad. I'm not sure if your model car has a computer module..If so they are uusually on a SUV under the radio..heater/AC switches close to floor pan in the middle..On cars they are on passenger side panel....If either one of these goes bad...Your motor want start..Also check your fuse box... It will be a high number fuse.bIt might be bad.. You can swap same number fuses to see if ones blown..If it starts change the bad fuse or something else want be working..There is another far fetch thing it could be if your getting spark...Vapor lock...It's when the pressure in your gas tank out pressures your fuel pump..If you have this issue when you loosen your gas tank you will hear air sucking back into your gas tank...it will start immediately but the problem will continue until you change out your charcoal filter canister..Hope this helps...Good luck

SOURCE: 2004 KIA RIO-ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK

I would guess starter fuse first, then starter. When you turn key, if you don't hear a click, you should focus your attention on the fuse first and then the starter. If you hear a click, then most likely (80%) its the starter solenoid. try to start the car in neutral to rule out the neutral safety switch...good luck

check battery for enough cranking power, if battery is below 8 volts, your dash lights will work, but you wont have enough power to start the engine

What happens if you bring power directly to the starter solenoid? Will it crank then? You need to try to isolate the problem. If it will crank with direct power, the starter is NOT the issue. Let us know what you find.

does the security light come on? You might have to sit there with the key in the "ON" position for 10-15 minutes until the security light goes off to reset the security system.

2005 GMC Yukon XL will not start. Took starter off and had it tested. The starter is good. However, the PCM fuse is blowing when attempting to start truck or turning turning the switch to start the tr

There is a dead short to ground on that circuit . There are videos on youtube showing how to find an fix a short . Do you know how to do automotive electrical testing ? How to find automotive electrical shorts Look at the wiring harness under the hood for rubbed through wire's , harness going to the PCM , also find out what if any thing else is powered by that fuse . Which PCM fuse ? There are a few PCM 1 , PCM B , etc...

PCM 1 Fuse
15A
Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor, Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid, Fuel Composition Sensor, Secondary Fuel Pump Relay

PCM B Fuse
20A
Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

Any one of these fuse will cause the engine not to crank . The PCM energizes the starter relay which supply's power to the starter .

Attempted to crank to yukon. Started turning over, but then stopped. have done this about 10 times trying to crank it.

Have the starting/charging system checked out by first checking the fully charged battery under a load tester.

If the battery checks out as good, then proceed to the amp draw test for the starter motor. If it draws 85 Amps to 120 Amps and doesn't turn vigorously, then the starter is bad.

Check that the crankshaft can be turned by putting a breaker bar fitted with the appropriate sized socket on the crankshaft and see if it can be turned, with resistance, by hand. when in park.

If not, then the engine is seized up.

Good luck on this repair.
