Remove the battery cable for at least 10 minutes and connect it while pressing the key fob at the same time

Boxster key remotes are reprogrammed by put the key in the ignition turning the ignition on but not starting the car, then hold down the door lock on the remote for like 5 sec. Ta da... She's reprogrammed.

SOURCE: manually openning the trunk of a 2002 porsche boxster

It can only be done using the key fob. Othersise use button inside the car. If your battery is flat you need a donor battery wiring to a connection in the fuse box (positive) anf door lock(negative) but see your hand book.

SOURCE: car remote keys won't open the car

Look in the manual to see how to make the car "learn" the remote's code. Failing that, look for a box with lot of wires under a seat or find where computer that controls that is in your car. Press the learn button on the box, and push the door lock button on the remote a couple times.

Does a porsche boxster 2001 need a chip in the key?

It might be that you are not using the car for several day in which case the key has to be inserted into the drivers door to unlock as the remote function is disabled if not activated ie if the car is out of use fo more than 3 days. Also if this happens you have to put key in the ignition and turn to deactivate the alarm otherwise the alarm will sound. Hope this tip is useful to all porsche drivers with key problems...Blando
