JUST PURCHASE 2000 MUSTANG 2 DAYS AGO. NOW WILL NOT SHIFT OUT PARK. I ASK A PERSON THEIR ..HE SAID TURN THE KEY HALF WAY & THE SHIFTER WENT INTO NERUTAL & CAR STARTED..WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

Brake switch, shift interlock solenoid or bad transmission range selector. Shift interlock won't let you shift out of park unless your foot is on the brake. So brake pedal starts the cycle. Next, the vehicle has to be in either park or neutral. So power flows from the brake switch through the transmission range selector which then sends power to the shift interlock solenoid which moves a pin out of the way, allowing you to shift out of park.

Transmission won't shift into gear only park works no prior problems just all of a sudden stop Lincoln Continental 2001

I would say it has something to do with this !
Shift Interlock System An ignition/shifter interlock mechanism is installed to prevent shifting the transaxle out of the PARK position unless the ignition switch is rotated to RUN and the brake pedal is applied. The floor shift interlock system consists of:
  • an actuator assembly integral to the ignition/shifter interlock cable assembly.
  • a bracket retaining the actuator.
  • the necessary wiring.
The solenoid is energized when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, locking the transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position. When the brake pedal is applied and the stoplight switch (13480) is activated, the ignition/shifter interlock actuator is deactivated and the transaxle range selector lever can be moved out of the PARK position.

Fuse for brake lights keeps blowing out, shifter won't go into gear

Your vehicle has a safety system that won't let you take it out of park unless you have the brake pedal pressed ! Your brake switch could be shorted inside causing fuse to blow !
Shift Interlock System A brake/shifter interlock mechanism prevents shifting the transmission out of the PARK position unless the brake pedal (2455) is applied. The system consists of the following components:
  • an actuator activated by the key interlock assembly and brake pedal pressed input.
  • necessary wiring.
The system operates as follows:
  • The actuator is energized when the ignition switch is turned to RUN, locking the transmission range selector lever in the PARK position. When the brake pedal is applied and the stoplight switch (13480) is activated, the shift lock actuator is deactivated.
  • The transmission range selector lever can be moved out of the PARK position.
The ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719) locks the transmission range selector lever in the PARK position when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position. It also requires the selector lever to be in the PARK position to turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

The linkage are hooked up but the car still want go into park,a 2000 Taurus

Do you have floor console shifter ?
Shift Interlock System A brake/shifter interlock system consists of the following:
  • ignition switch (11572)
  • brake pedal stoplight switch (13480)
  • brake shift interlock module
  • brake shift interlock solenoid assembly (attached to key interlock assembly)
  • necessary wiring
On floor-shift vehicles, the ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719):
  • locks the floor shift transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  • requires the floor shift transaxle range selector lever to be in the PARK position to turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

Trans will not shitf in to any.

Is it possible that your shifter cable/linkage is broken?
WITH ENGINE OFF look under the hood where the cable connects to the range selector on the transmission (driver's side, next to the engine) and have someone shift back and forth through PRND321 etc. If you don't see anything moving or moving just slightly, it's a faulty shifter cable.
Pls let us know here what you find.

2001 Ford Escape not responding to shift selector on column. stuck in reverse. a man reached under hood somewhere and manually made selector move to drive, so I could get home. what do I repair and how?

the shifter which hooks to the box under the hood is missing a rubber ring, causing it to slip off. just go to an auto parts store and buy some shifter rings, and press one on

I have a 1999 C230 Mercedes Kompressor, automatic transmission. The gear selector can be moved from park down through reverse, neutral and to drive, but refuses to move to the left to 4th. I removed the...

Hello drtonyg... This is an electronic shifter controler on the C230...Almost every time they fail the shifter assy. needs replaced as a whole unit....There have been some techs that have tried to clean and repair the shifter assembly and reuse it but most attempts fail..You can disconnect the shift linkage from the shifter assembly underneath the vehicle and then see if your shifter moves all the way(this would eliminate any shifter assembly failures)
Good luck, i hope this helps...please rate me a fixya.

Tranmission indicator reads E not D for drive

E = Error.

Electronic Transmission Error Indicator
The vehicle is equipped with a redundant electronic gearshift indicator. This character appears with the key in the RUN position and displays the same gear selection as shown on the selector lever floor console next to the range selector lever. If an "E" character flashes or remains on this indicates that a transmission malfunction has occurred.

Go to Autozone and ask them to perform free computer scan to see if any trans codes show up. May be just a fluke.
