Center gear shift on 2002 Concord not shifting

Hello there,

It is possible that the cable is shot. You can change the shift cable (cable from shifter to transmission). For replacement, I'd advise you to take it to a dealership or a local mechanic and also ask them to spray some WD40 on the shift linkage on the trans and work it back and forth to loosen it up before you put the new cable on. This is because you have to use the best transmission oil to prevent it from happening again.

Best of luck!

Engine light came on, the speedometer stopped working and the car no longer shifts into high gear - 2000 Concord

the computer needs to know what speed your going in order to be able to shift. Only way to know what the problem is is to use a diagnostic scanner. If you don't have one you will need a shop to figure this out for you.

Try makeing sure the shifter is firmly in park. If the shift cable gets slightly out of adjustment the key may not come all the way to the off positon.

Automatic Shifting Lever difficulties

Don't do it yourself. You would have to have the car on a hoist to do the work, as so much of what has to be done is out of sight and out of reach even if you were to jack up the car on stands. I had the shifter cable changed on my 1998 Intrepid ES, which had never seen snow or ice (I'm from Ontario), as all winters were spent in Florida. Besides changing the cable, the interlock has to be adjusted, and without the proper instruction, you would have nothing but problems, and probably would not be able to turn your key in the ignition switch. The total cost (at the dealer) for parts and labour cost me $286.16 U.S. tx. incl. The only good manual to explain even part of the procedure is the Chrysler shop manual ($96.00 ). Get the cable changed before it seizes up altogether, or you break the shifter lever etc. trying to force it. Hope this helps you. Regards Al Waters
