The fluid can be anywhere between the two notch when the transmission fluid is hot. Next time you go to the the gas station, the transmission will be at operating temperature by then. Check your transmission fluid level by having the engine in park and idling. Do a double check, by pulling the dip stick out and cleaning it and checking again. The second time yu check the fluid should be between the two notch, If it's above the top notch then it;s to much fluid and if it's below the notch then it's low and need some ATF. Good luck and hope this helps oh and make sure your on level ground

1st notch is one pint low, 2nd notch is full hot, the fluid must be at least 180 degrees F to do any check of level, DO NOT OVERFILL!

I own a 2000 Nissan Frontier 4X4. I have not had occasion to use the 4 wheel drive. Can you tell me how to put the truck in 4 wheel drive and take it out? Do not have a manual. Thanks!

Assuming yours is the 2 gear stick layout this is roughly how it works.
The smaller gear shift should be to the left of the normal gearstick.
It should be in the fully forward position. This means it is in 2 wheel drive, high ratio, for normal road driving. (Rear wheels).
Pulling the stick back ONE notch engages 4 wheel drive, high ratio. Used for snowy, icy, slippery conditions as well as light off roading. (Keep the speed under 50mph).
Pushing down and back another notch engages neutral in the transfer box. This means ALL drive is DISCONNECTED even if you use the normal gearbox.
**Try to avoid this one**!!
Pulling the stick back the last notch engages 4 wheel drive, LOW ratio. This is for the more extreme off roading conditions such as VERY steep hills. Not usually used in normal day to day driving.
The two fully forward positions, (2High and 4High), will be the ones used the most.

How many quarts pf atf does a 93 jeep cherokee take

first good Cherokee made. 93
the automatic trans.????? power steering? what?
well, the cars may have 2 different trans there.which one?
the operators guide covers this. for only your car.
what is PF?
pink Fluid?

the transmission has 3 class capacities, all A/T
  1. rebuild dry (17 pints USA, 8.5qt
  2. just pan drain, (varies by temperature and time)
  3. or drained out clutch. and pan and drip dry. (guess 8qt)

we cant guess what you are doing.? not at all.
get a full flush and filter in any ASE shop , is best.
let them do it.

draining out 1/3 is hopeless.

think of the A/T as a giant ATF sponge. (Sponge Bob in Pink)?
and then ask.
Use only Dexron®IIE/Mercon® Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) on all AW-4 transmissions and ATF Plus 3/Type 7176 on all automatic transmissions except the AW-4 (or their superceding fluid types).

to only drain pan
do so
then put in 2qt(fsm quote)
and start it and add as need, per rules hot, on dip stick running.
how is that.?

Atf ws or atf t4 which is better

stick to the recommended ATF fluid for your vehicle. The 2 are not compatible.

While driving by 1997 Toyota Camry yesterday, I thought I felt the a slip in the transmission, and then a warning light came on and it the slipping became worse. Any thoughts?

With the car on level ground, the engine on, and the transmission in park or neutral, check your automatic transmission fluid (ATF) using the dipstick located in the engine bay (procedure: Take the dip stick out, wipe it off, put it back in completely, take out to check level). If the fluid is low, fill with ATF fluid through the same tube the ATF dip stick came from. Caution: It's easy to put ATF in, but difficult to take out. Pour a small amount in and check before pouring more.

I need to set the timing on my 97 dodge neon. do i rotate the the crank 1/2 notch counter clockwise or three notches on a 2.0 SOHC

no notches . line up all the marks and put belt on. tighten tensioner. rotate crank 2 times and see if marks line up again. if they dont repeat untill they line up correcty.a half a notch off on one or two marks cannot be adjusted because there are no half notches. as long as one mark lines up if the other two are 1/2 notch off you are good. one notch off though and its installed wrong

Changed filter, need to know where to put in atf

This veicle has no dip-stick for the ATF, You will need to raise the car and support on jackstands. On the bottom of the tranny pan there are 2 bolts one for drain (the lower one) and the upper one for filling. Here's the tricky part, the fluid will have to be pumped in with the engine running, when it starts to overflow, then it full. Cut engine and tighten fill bolt.

Can't findwhere to put in power steering fluid.

It should have a dark green cap/cover with a notch implicating to use a wide enough object e.g. casino chip to open it. Use only VW power steering OIL not regular ATF.

Honda Jazz Auto delay in engaging into gear

i would expect the ATF to be lower when engine running as it is being pumped around the gearbox, as for the delay i would advise to get the OBD codes read , as this could give you a code number that will tell you what the problem is.The fluid colour sounds fine , it's when the ATF gets a dark brown colour i would advise changing. If you check the ATF again smell the fluid on the dip stick , if smells like a burnt type of smell then the ATF cooling component may not be working as well as should be,if so will require further investigation , hope this helps and gives you somewhere to start your investigations into this problem
