SOURCE: 2008 cobalt with 16000 miles ac went out last fall

It sounds like your A/C condenser is freezing up. Possibly from having too much or too little Freon in the system. Is the compressor clutch engaging, it should engage. If not the clutch is problem.------- Other possibility can be moisture in the system and its freezing/thawing in your expansion tube blocking the orifice .----
There is a pressure switch that would not allow the compressor clutch to engage until there is a certain pressure in the lines.--------- The refrigerant level is low in the Ac compressor. The refrigerant needs to be charged.------ If the refrigerant level is insufficient the compressor will not engage. If it is very low the compressor will cycle on and off. ---------Get the Ac fan ans compressor clutch relays checked in the engine compartment under hood.If the relays are checked ok, so try this ,jump the compressor relay by a hot wire and then see the clutch should engage.---- ------------

  1. The compressor clutch solenoid is shot. Replacing the compressor will fix this.
  2. The air conditioning system is very low on Freon or empty. Refilling the system required.
  3. There is an electrical problem in the air conditioning circuit. Finding and repairing the short or open in the air conditioning circuit will be necessary.
  4. ----------------
There is low pressure switch on the compressor.Jump the low pressure switch by a hot wire and see.If the clutch engages, if not then problem with the clutch.------- It has to be replaced.-------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I have a 1974-80 kohler 10hp k241 aqs engine that leaks oil at the block breather assy. Any help or suggestions would be a big help!!!

If oil is coming out there, then you're getting a lot of blowby past the piston rings, which means the cylinder is getting VERY worn. When you rebuild it (please rebuild it, don't let it turn into a pile of rust at the junkyard!, it'll give you a shocking amount more power.

Between 8 and 12 oz. would be the normal amount found in an AC compressor. Polymax2 auto A/C refrigerant oil is a good choice.
Polymax2 Refrigerant oil is unique. Not only does this oil provide other benefits to your vehicle's A/C system, it's even non-hygroscopic. That means it will NOTabsorb moisture. In fact, Polymax2 is formulated to repel moisture!

Hi..i had to change a/c condencer, and the a/c compresser, both at the same time.how will i go about charging the system? do i need to add coolent too both ports? or just the low side.?

YOU TAKE TO A GARAGE LET THEM PUMP IT DOWN FIRST MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE RIGHT AMOUNT REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR.IT COME WITH SHIPPING OIL IN IT BUT YOU HAVE TO POUR IT OUT.PUT IN THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR LOOK IN OWNERS MANUAL TO PUT IN THE RIGHT AMOUNT.NOW IF YOUR OLD COMPRESSOR SEIZED OR LOCKED UP THEN LET GARAGE FLUSH OUT METAL SHAVINGS OUT .IF YOU DONT FLUSH OUT SHAVINGS THE NEW COMPRESSOR WILL BE DESTROYED.ALSO YOU HAVE TO REPLACED THE ACCUMULATOR OR ORIFICE TUBE IF EQUIPPED.IF OLD COMPRESSOR DIDNT LOCK UP.PUT NEW REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR IT TAKE AT LEAST 1 OUNCE OF OIL BUT CHECK OWNERS MANUAL ALL VECHICLE HAS DIFFERENT SPECS.AFTER COMPRESSOR OIL BEEN PUT IN EVERYTHING ALL REFRIGERANT LINES TIGHT.TAKE VECHICLE TO A GARAGE THAT DO AIR CONDITIONER WORK.THEY HAVE TO USE A VACUUM PUMP TO PUMP DOWN THE AC SYSTEM TO REMOVE MOISTURE AND LEAK TEST THE SYSTEM WHILE IT PUMP DOWN.IF YOU DONT LET THE GARAGE PUMP DOWN SYSTEM. THE MOISTURE WILL FREEZE UP IN AC SYSTEM CAUSING POOR OR NO COOLING.THE GARAGE GOING TO CHARGE YOU TO PUMP DOWN AND CHARGE UP SYSTEM.IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO DO THIS THAN TO BUY A VACUUM PUMP AND MANIFOLD GAUGE SET.WHEN DOING AC WORK YOU NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS TO DO THE JOB OR THE AC SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK RIGHT.

Rebuild AC Compressor RSX 2004

You can replace the clutch assembly without removing the air condtioning compressor you need to buy the tools to remove the clutch with. Need more information if you are going to tear into this as it can be expensive and I would not open up the system unless you had too.
