Question about 1997 Subaru Outback

97 Subaru Outback ELECTRICAL-lights stay on-NOT park light switch

Some of my lights will not turn off. I believe they are the tail lights, backup lights, front turn signal lights and side marker lights (basically the parking lights) They all remain on even if I turn the engine off and remove the key. Note: it is definately not the parking light switch above the steering column, lights remain on in both positions, blink when button in on position. This had run my battery completely down.I also noticed an intermittant clicking with or without the key on. That was the remote key access box until I disconnected it.Now I am unplugging the new battery everytime I stop to avoid draining it.My thinking is that the problem exists somewhere under the dash, wherethe switch that controls these lights is defective. Where do I start?Has anyone had this problem or is familiar with the unit that controls these lights? Please help. Thanks,Ian

Parking lights stay on after car is off

There is a switch on top of your steering column for parking lights. It's there because your lights shut off when you turn the ign. switch off. The switch on the column allows you to turn on your parking lights with the ign. switch off. Try flipping the switch.

2001 subaru outback parking lights stay on with key off

Go to Autozone, com and register your car on their site. They have fusebox layouts. It sounds like a relay is sticking in the light relays.

I hope my solution is helpful.

I don't know about the 2007's but earlier models have a parking light switch located on the top of the steering column. See if there is a switch there that got moved when cleaning.

Parking lughts wont go off

I had the same problem with my Outback but the solution is very simple, turn off the parking light switch located on the top of the steering column. See chapter 3 page 23 in your owners manual.  This has to be the dumbest and most frustrating feature EVER!

Parking & tail lights stay on

1 Other User Has The Same Problem Posted by camberggren on Nov 26, 2008 I just encountered the same problem on my 96 Subaru after I had the alternator replaced. One user tried the band aid fix of removing the hazard warning flasher 15 amp fuse in position #27 in the engine compartment fuse panel. It could also be a bad lighting relay. I am still troubleshooting the problem. Solution #1 posted on Aug 12, 2008 0%20stars_w.png

The first thing you need to do is figure out if the car has a factory or aftermarket security system them replace the clicking relay accordingly
