You may just want to replace the cluster. The back of the cluster is actually a circuit board, so replacing it, even with a salvage yard cluster, will more than likely fix your issue. Not too hard to replace, either, as long as you are patient!!

SOURCE: low/poor idle

Here is what you need to do, a cleaning of the intake throttle blade and the idle speed control air-bypass valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours,
Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

SOURCE: Guages malfunctioning

This problem maybe solved a couple ways. The first, (and cheapest) is check all your fuses. BMW's sometimes have multiple fuse boxes. In the dashboard behind the clove compartment, under the driver's side or passenger's side dash( near your knees or sides of your calfs), and in the engine compartment under the hood. Fuses are relatively cheap if you do it yourself and are available at nearly all auto parts stores and many WAL*MART'S or TARGET'S.

If you've checked all the fuses with either a fuse checker (about $5 at an auto parts store) or by pulling out and checking each fuse visually (making sure to be very careful not to touch the contacts or not getting shocked by disconnecting the positive battery cable very carefully), another problem may be in your ECU (the car's computer or brains).

If the fuses are fine, I'd take it to a dealer to have them look at the ECU, it is one of those parts that you can't really diagnose yourself with out the right software and computer connections (very expencive tools, around $500-$3,000 each) but many local mechanic shops and all BMW dealers will have these tools.

First check the fuses. If you have trouble finding the fuse boxes, look in the owner's manuals.

I hope I could help you fix the problem.

SOURCE: speedo & trip counter not working

Speedo has a loose or broken connection behind the gauge cluster.......Odometer needs to have the gears replaced ( inexpensive part), this part can be sourced on ebay or www.bavauto.com

SOURCE: I've got a 1991 BMW 525i which has done 253,000

this is just a rough guess, but i think it would be the battery or the alternator. Some part store have testers that they will check both for free.

Pull the Instrument panel(IP). unplug it, then plug it back in. See if it comes back to life, corrosion. If not, replace the IP. Year make and model helps.

Good day, I need a wiring diagram for the instrument cluster on a 2001 Mazda B2500 TD with the plug pin labelling in pdf format.

The only place I know of to view the wiring diagram is in the workshop manual . Your friendly sparky may print out the page for you. If not invest in the manual, you will save the price on the first repair.

Instument pannel keeps going out speedo rev counter fuel gauge

The cluster is really a computer module, so what needs is first make sure the signal for this gages are reaching the cluster if they are then the cluster needs repair, if not you may have a defective fuel level sensor and a problem with the vehicle speed sensor. Flip a coin, the sensor issues will be the most costly as the fuel tank must come out for replacement of the level sensor, that runs many hours of labor.

Gauges not working

It MAY be an internal problem with the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). The place to BEGIN diagnosis would be to perform a COMPLETE scan of your ENTIRE onboard computer network. Please note that generic code readers CANNOT perform this function.

Speedo works sometimes and doesnt work sometimes?

It's unlikely you may have a loose instrument cluster connector unless someone was previously working around that area behind it. If no activity before hand then I'm guessing you may have a deteriorating instrument cluster that needs replacing. You can find people selling in ebay (lower price) or directly from the dealer.

Instrument Cluster not lighting up

I have a Mercedes S-500 and the Cluster Light on my dashboard went out? As you can Imagine I could not see my Speedometer or Rev counter or anything at all. I had no option but to take it to the Mercedes garage In Edinburgh where the fitted a new Cluster Panel complete. It seems now to work fine however at a costly price. Yours Sincerely
and thank you very much for your concern and reply.
