Question about 2004 Land Rover Range Rover

1 Answer

What possibilities would make a range rover not start ?

The suv had a bad engine. the engine was rebuilt and put back in . Did compression test(150-170 psi in all cylinders) I have spark on all plugs and fuel on the injectors. I noticed that the throttle is blowing air out instead of sucking it in ( backfire maybe? ).Put the scanner on it to check faulty codes, all what I get is thermostat and ambient sensor codes. Any ideas what it could be ?

Testimonial: "did that, theres no way you can change the firing order since each cylinder has its own coil and the coil plugs come fixed in a rail. thank you."

After struggling with it for a couple of days, I found out that the camshaft sensor plate was misaligned. Realigned both and the engine started !!!

How to rplace an oil pump on a 98 range rover

Are you that is it. I have replaced them. People wanted high pressure pumps in them. Other times was because I rebuilt the engine and a new pump came in the kit. Bad crank shaft bearings are usually why there is little or no oil pressure. If you hear knocking at the lower side of the engine at start up and after, it's to late for the pump.

2005 Range Rover SHE 4.6. Why does it start but fails to keep running?

Oil? Fuel? Bearings installed properly with clearance checked? Followed all the rebuild instructions to the T. All sensors working properly? Any codes from the ECU? What was the engine doing before the rebuild? Why was it rebuilt? All factors that may influence the current crisis.

Over heating causes truck cut off, and will not turn back on until cool.

Do compression check to check for bad head gasket or cracked block or head

I answered your other same question

If you have to add coolant,it had to go somewhere
as no fluids are consumed

So you have serious problems like a bad coolant
leak or bad head gasket if no visible leak can be found

You need a repair shop

No one can guess & help you from the internet

Repairs have to be made then know how to get out
of fail safe if that applies

That job will required factory reference material to
understand the problem & diagnose it

I have a sudden ticking sound in the bottom of engine. It starts when car is warm.

Could be a couple of possibilities;
1) could be an exhaust leak (common on Rovers)
2) this is a little more technical, - have someone put an hand held oil pressure gauge on it and check for low oil pressure. If your oil has thinned down with fuel etc, it could damage engine bearings.
Whatever, don't put it off - Rovers are not cheap to fix

Sound like your battery has a bad cell. have battery check out.Alternator should be ok, engine would turn off if bad alternator, battery is only used to start then alternator take's over.

1998 range rover p38 2.5 dse auto engine stalls

Sounds like something is overheating then and possibly a sensor. Not familiar with Rovers but might be a problem with the CAS and/or CPS which tells the ECU the motor is running and when to fire. Also maybe the IAC is bad and when you go from throttle to idle it can't control it and allows it to die.

Over heating/loss of compression.

yes you head gasket is bad. pull your dipstick and see if ther is oil and water on it. it will be milky colored. you will probaly need a head also. your block may be bad also. rovers are known for bad engines. the best thing you can do cost wise is get a rebuilt long block and install it yourself or trade it in to save money

Range rover 4.6 v8 loosing oil but no oil leak?

Hi if you park your car on a level surface do you have any patches on the floor?
If you do then it would point to Front or rear main seal. However it is a very common fault on 4.0l and especialy 4.6l to crack piston rings. The sumptoms are high oil useage and mostly no trace of oil leak and normaly no signs of smoking either.
Thanks Rob.

1997 Landrover will not start, battery is good

Bad battery cable connections (loose/dirty). Starter (stuck/dead). Only going by what you wrote, could possibly be engine (seized). I hope not! Most likely it's bad cable connections. Best wishes. Hope that I helped.
