You may have alot of debris in the radiator and cooler lines which reciprocates and introduces unwanted metal and junk in your replacement transmission.Flush or replace that radiator.

I changed my oil last night with my boy friend who does frequent oil changes. Afterwords, my transmission started shifting extremely hard and late. Please help. I do not believe he drained the tranny...

e: subaru legacy transmission dipstick Transmission dip stick is behind the engine in front of driver side firewall. Move a few hoses out of the way, look down and you'll see it has a yellow top.
Other side (passenger) lower down yet, again move a few hoses aside, yellow top handle, you'll find the shorter differential dip stick.
In either case, if your gaze reaches the ground, you've gone too far.

Where do i find the transmition fluid cap ?

hi there is only a dipstick access point on the side of the transmission for fluid level reading, if you require more fluid in trans you have to put it in at that point, its annoying but if you use a funnel and a small hose its not that hard

My transmission is not engaging correctly. Once engaged in drive it shifts fine. To get it to engage i must rev engine until about2500 rpms and it engages

Check your transmission fluid level. When the engine is not running the fluid is not being pushed into the torque converter so check the fluid level with the engine is running, from a safety point of view have a friend sit in the driver's seat with a foot on the brake with the transmission in park or neutral. If the level is low, extra fluid can be added via the transmission dipstick tube ( DO NOT confuse this with the dipstick for engine oil!). If the problem persists it could be that you have sheared the oil pump shaft within the transmission. What ever the cause there is little that can be done by way of DIY and a consultation with an auto transmission centre would be the best next point of call

For a 1999 Subaru Legacy does it have just the screw on transmission filter or is there also one in the pan?

I have a 99 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon also. I just changed my fluid & filters. There is a spin-on AND a bolt-in that's inside (you have to drop the pan).

Changing radiator on automatic subaru legacy twin turbo, cause it has a oil feed how to refill when ive put new radiator on

Hi:
The two lines that you are wondering about are oil cooler lines for your transmission. One is a pressure line from the transmission, the other is the return. Usually only a small amount of transmission fluid is lost during a radiator change, but all you need to do is to check for leaks on the line connections, and if they are good, then check your transmission fluid level after you are finished and top off if needed.
