Why won't my Honda shaft drive pedestrian mower engage gears?

Cable ok, shaft ok, suspect a gearbox fault as have two with the same problem. Push it and it will engage eventually.

The pull cable that you use to go is probably attached to a pull clutch on the face of a gear . This clutch face will probably be worn as it is thin and not of good quality material. If you have 2 with the same problem then pull one apart and check what has failed . Parts may be available

SOURCE: Jaguar s type 03 gearbox fault warning light on dashboard, gear stuck in 4, reverse engages ok, what could it be?

sounds like it is in get you home because of gearbox failure if its the early box with metal sump check selector cable adjustment it critical as the J gate micro switches and the linear switch on the side of the gearbox have to be in sync with each other. on the other hand if it is the later gearbox with plastic sump, which i suspect it will be, check it has not lost some of its oil due to leaking sump, common problem! other wise check fault codes in transmission control module, any codes relating to incorrect gear ratio means internal falure most times

My hyundai accent 1996 has a manual transmission and today it popped out of 4th gear in to neutral about 3 or 4 times as i was driving around town.what needs to be replaced?

forth gear is not a gear as such but a dog that connects the input and out put shafts to make a straight through drive
reasons for jumping out of gear include gear not properly selected __check shifter connections or cable adjustment cable loose at one end not making full engagement of the dog
loose n bell housing bolts or bolts not tension in the correct order
bearing failure on input shaft , out put shaft or spigot bearing between the shafts
if you have had no problems before today, the shifter mechanism and cable is a prime suspect for failure

Mazda bravo b2600 gearbox growles and grumbles. cant select 2nd or 4th gear. 1st, 3rd,5th & reverse ok.

I am sorry to tell that the gearbox need to have some major repair. It is also not advisable to continue driving as the gearbox can breakdown completely leaving you stranded. At least one the cluster drive gears in the gearbox is damaged (gear tooth stripped off) that will result in that only some of the gears being able to be selected. The broken off tooth are still in the gearbox and due to the oil movement in the gearbox it can be "washed up " in between to engaged gears destroying those as well. This will happen up to the point where there are no gear selection at all.

PrEngine is running, gearbox linkage can be seen moving looking down from engine - when driver puts lever into gear, gearbox not engaging - with or without clutch applied. Possible areas which could...

Unfortunately the problem will need investigating. There must be a problem with the flywheel / clutch assembly or the gearbox itself. The fact that you can move the gear linkage indicates that there is no drive in the gearbox ( ie not turning). The only items that effect this are the clutch / flywheel assembly or the primary shaft in the gearbox.
The gearbox will have to be removed and the above checked.

Won't go into gear when turned on when off will go into all gears put in new clutch and clutch cable flywheel checked and ok. All seems to be ok with gearbox. Still can't get gears engaged when started.

Clutch cable not adjusted properly , worn clutch fork or ball , pilot bushing in the back of the crank to tight or not lubricated so the input shaft is spinning at engine rpm.. these are just a couple of possibilities .

My 1995 Honda Accord V-6 speedometer sticks at 19 mph.

The speedometer works from a steel sheathed cable that is connected to the drive shat at the rear of the gearbox. The internal braided steel cable rotates inside the sheath connecting the drive shaft to the back of the speedometer. The cable sheath connects to the gearbox casing and the internal cable has a lug that engages with a rotating shaft in the gearbox. The cable connects in a similar way to the back of the speedometer. Your problem is likely to be associated with the cable. It can have become disconnected at either end or, more likely, the internal cable has broken.

Its easy to check out. Find where the cable come through the firewall between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment then follow it down to where it connects to the gearbox. Disconnect it and see if it is broken. Alternatively you can find where it connects to the back of the speedometer and disconnect it there. If it is broken the internal cable will come out of the sheath.

Replacing the cable is easy enough but requires some scrambling around under the dash.

Seems like you have a seized gearbox. If the engine can turn on the starter when you depress the clutch that will confirm the problem lies in the gearbox. One outside possibility is that there is an inboard handbrake on the Isuzu. An inboard handbrake is commonly located at the back of the gearbox on the drive shaft. If this is the case it could be the handbrake jamming.
