Question about 1989 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Tail and brake lights quit working

The tail and brake lights in my 1989 toyota camry quit working. The auto light shut off quit working a while back also. I have checked the bulbs and fuses. They are all good. I have also checked out the tail light relay. I could feel it kick in and out when I turned the light switch on. Could the light failure sensor cause these problems?

Auto light shut off is a relay that is basically a timer.
Replace it .

Tail lights dont work the brake ligts work

How are your dash lights? Usually dash lights and tail lights are on one circuit. The dimmer switch is also connected to both circuits. If there is a short in the dimmer switch, then either tail lights or dimmer switch could have problems.

Tail light is not working bulb are not fuse whan break apply light is ok

Believe it or not, i think i understand your post. You will have to change the bulb. They have a double filament, and the brake part is not related to the tail light part. The bulb is half burnt, in other words.

1989 Toyota Camry. No brake lights.

It could be the relay, which is a yellow box located under the carpeting in the trunk on the left side. It is a problem common to your model. Also, check the brake switch's (behind the brake pedal) functionality (12V present with key at ACC or ON and continuity between wires when button engaged).

i hope this helps
