Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I installed the timing belt on my 02 nissan frontier 3.3 l. It rides smooth and everything appears great. However, there is a noise especially when I go uphill. I think I might have put the crankshaft washer the wrong way; should it be on the outside of the cover instead of the inside? Any input will be appreciated.

Check in a workshop manual but I suspect that the washer is there to act as a pulley flange to keep the timing belt on the pulley properly. I am thinking that it should be on the inside of the cover against the belt pulley

Noise at start Nissan Frontier 2001. Sounds like valves.

Make sure the oil filter is fitted with a return valve, some after market filters don't have this valve, and the oil drains back to the sump when stopped, It takes a second or two after starting to build up pressure with type of filter, so there is a rattle.

Nissan markets its D22 and D40 pickup trucks in North America as the Frontier. A six-cylinder 3.3-liter engine with a double overhead camshaft is standard for the D22 models. The timing belt for this engine keeps the camshafts synchronized with the camshaft, enabling the engine to run smoothly. The timing belt has a limited lifetime, and typically requires replacement after 60,000 miles.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Power Steering Belt slipping

Just apply some ENGINE DEGREASER on the belts and pulleys, rinse them with plain water, making sure the electrical components don't get wet. That will take care of your problem.

And never, never use belt dressing or any spray on a rubber belt!
If you have more than 1 serp belt that drives every thing, remove the power steering belt to verify its that belt.Take a wire brush and clean the grooves on the pulleys and get that belt dressing of too, install new belt and noise will be gone.
