1988 corvette climate control not working

I have a 1988 corvette... the climate control has gone bonkers.. i have cleaned the contacts on the unit.. changed nothing.. i can hear the compressor engage.. but the fan does not come on.. tried it on the "auto".. econ.. and bi level settings.. with "auto" and manual fan speeds..
could it be the climate control head.. fan motor.. or the entire control unit ??? any way to narrow it down..?
any help would be appreciated..
thanks

SOURCE: No air conditioning, flashing climate light

You should make sure you have proper charge for sure.has your battery gone dead lately? I know on some of them digital climate controls will act exactly like this and have to be reset or go through a setup sequence.

SOURCE: ac not working

if you by passed the relay and clutch engaged then this shows that pump works ??but was it getting cold on and around the restrictor valve where the pipes enter the cab is normally a valve block but american monsters use a valve in the pipe for cooling and if its not getting cold their or blowing cold inside cab then system needs re-gassing with R 134 gas if its an older system with R 12 gas then it will need to have adaptors fitted to valve connections and refilled with R134 gas.The main cause of A/C system loosing gas is porosity in the rubber flexible pipes also the back seal on the pump.Or just regass and put a leak stopper in the system

SOURCE: a/c heater climat control switch

Check the relais module located inside under the rh side of the heather box you can see the connector most of them need to be replaced as they burn out you may need to replace the blower motor as well, high amp draw caused by faulty bearings will overload the blower motor controller

SOURCE: 1993 corvette electronic a/c-compressor won't come on

There is a way to retrive the diagnostic codes in the A/C system by holding 2 buttons at the same time on the panel. I did this many years ago to solve a problem on my '92 Roadster. I got the info from corvetteforum.com Post your problem at corvetteforum.com. There are many experts there that will help.

SOURCE: the climate control system will not work in Auto

Your A/C system has lost its refrigerant, and will automatically go into "ECON" at that time. System will have to be leak tested , repaired, and recharged. Hope this helps.

My C4 Corvette wont allow the heater or the A/C to come on. I replaced the control panel and everything on it works. Temp, blower etc: All fuses check out as OK. What's next in line to check?

Edward,

C4 Corvettes have an Outside Air Temperature sensor which may be faulty. It senses air temp in front of the car and tells the climate control unit (which controls the heat/ac) what the temp outside is. Yours is in front of the grill. It's a $20 part. It looks like the attached link. I'm not sure if this is your issue, but it was on my son's car. I just thought it might give you a direction to check.

My 1988 bmw 325i had the entire a/c system removed will that affect the heat on my climate control also

Hi Vince.
No this shouldn't affect the heat on your climate control, as the air-con is a separate entity the heat is transferred from the engine, but the air-con cold is a complete unit on its own so should not affect heating the car, just cooling it inside. hope that helps

Climate control cools alot on passenger side not much on drivers side

If it has dual climate control , its likely low on
freon , that type of system is sensitive to freon charge.

1990 corvette with auto climate controll--blower won't shut off

It's a defrost bypass valve that redirects the freon to releave the high head pressure caused by shutdown. When the pressure balances it will go back to normal. An iced up evaporator causes poorheat load levels and it affects the whole system. You may want to have the system chked for a proper charge in the a/c system. Personnaly I wouldn't be concerned. Good Luck, Ned.

1987 corvette, digital climate control stays on 90 deg.. Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem. My control worked to increase heat, but the cool button would not allow the temp to go back down. I took the climate control apart. I don't think GM intended this to be done, because it is held by little plastic **** that will break off. This is very deilicate. Take a rasor knife and trim the heads of the ****. This will allow most of them to pull through w/o braking off. Be very careful now to separrate the parts. There are little rubber switches that will have to go back exactly. I had to use some small pieces of thin tape to hold some of them as i re-assembled it. The problem was crud on the circuit where the cooling button makes contact. I took 0000 steel wool on a pencil eraser and cleaned the circuit where the switch makes contact. I also cleaned the little black switch inside the gray rubber. I re-assembled and tested. Be suse to do this, because you don't want to take every thing apart again. I had to tape the control back together. You could gule, but it would be hard if you had to get back into it. Mine now works find and saved a couple of 100 dollars. hope this helps... Stephen

I have blockage in refridgerant system is there a way to clear

You could try removing it and clearing it with compressed air flowing reverse the normal system route. I would recommend that if you do try that, you use air that has gone through a air/water separator if your in a other than dry climate.

1987 corvette heater switch climate control wont stay on

It sounds very much like just a bad contact in the switch. Get a new one or take it out and have a look and see if the contacts are dirty.
