Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

I have a 06 Lincoln mark lt. Low idle rough and will shutter to the point where it will shutoff. I had a cam position sensor error, so I had replaced the sensors. I still have the cam code error. I had cleared the ECM by disconnecting the battery, not with a ODB scanner. My question is: why would my gas gauge to from 1/4 tank to empty when the battery was hooked back up, the moment I get a check engine light the gas gauge goes back to normal. I disconnect\reconnect the battery, I get the check engine light and gas gauge is normal. When I clear the ECM, gas gauge is empty till I get the check engine light, which has the same Cam sensor code when both the sensors had been replaced? Could the ECM be damaged. Truck has 90k miles and the cats, o2 sensors have been replaced. help...

SOURCE: 2004 Kia Optima no start after timing belt, crank, cam sensor replacement

did you use aftermarket crank sensor? if so that might be your problem. dealer has several different ones, by providing vin number, but there is only one after market for all optimas 01-05. try to connect thick pink wire and thick orange wire together on the ignition failure sensor. you might have the same problem as me. good luck.

Bad coolant temp sensor or EGR valve stuck. You can remove and test temp sensor (the one for the ECM--has only one wire) using cold and then hot water and read resistance with ohm meter.

I would check the Crankshaft Position Sensor. If any of the blades on the crankshaft sproket were bent the will nick the sensor and throw everything out of wack. Its worth your time to buy a pair of camshaft lock tools. They hold the cams in place while you remove the belt. Also search youtube for sorento 3.5 timing belt. There is a mechanic that reallly knows his stuff and can show you a couple of tricks to make the job a lot easier. Good Luck. Oh and, good job on the crank bolt! Not an easy fix my friend.

TPS will make it run bad and worse as time goes by. Fuel regulator will not let it run or it will pour out black smoke on heavy acelleration. I would check all the vacuum lines first, this is the most likely cause of rough idle, besides a tune up. Vacuum leak....

When you replace the plugs you should also replace the wires. If you don't have a check engine light then you wont have a bad cam sensor. Stick to fuel and spark issues.

I would take it in and have them do a diagnostic on it, sounds like the cam shaft sensor to me.
