SOURCE: light flashing on stick shift

I had my 99 f250 do that and it was a couple of thing, I had to unplug the connector to the transmission and clean it and also it was over heating because the cooler bypass tube were the cooler houses connect to it it was getting stock. the way it works is if it is to cold outsidi, it will circulate the transmission oil just inside the transmission, when it reaches warm temperature, the tube will openup and the oil starts circulating thru the cooler.

Change filter in transmition and check for band pices or trash. If you do, put 1/2 new and 1/2 old trans fluid back in. Then check speed sensor to see if it is OK. I have 1996 F150 300six with E40D trans. I have 267000 mills on my truck.

89 f350 460 engine e40d transmission. TC locks up in reverse and neutrel acts like drive whats wrong?

Hi Fip, Sounds as if the selector body has been moved out of adjustment and is no longer lining up. There should be an alignment hole through which you can fit a Philips (star screw driver) through an realign. Get a pair of goggles and put them...Take a flash light and then get under the vehicle. Locate the switch selector assembly and look carefully for the holes in the levers and the gearbox body. Loosen the fixing bolt and then slide the screw driver through, getting them all aligned with the one drilled into the box. Once done the selectors will be set. Tighten the locking bolt and it should be good to go. Regards John

My 1990 f-350 won't crank when I turn the key, instrument panel lights come on.

More than likely your battery is on it's way out. The lights may come on but they only draw minimal amps, starter draws 200+amps. Try jump starting, then have local parts store like Autozone, Advance, etc.. have them load test battery.

On the column shift lever does not accuate transmission shift when moved.

its probably a gigantic piece of ****, just like my f350, ford used a cable style shifter and a retarted lever system in the steering colum. when i opened my colum, i found about 3 lbs of aluminum dust from what used to be the shifter lever inside the colum housing the slop in the lever caused the shift cable to travel too far and snapped it so i replaced it just to have the cable snap again. i guess im going to have to change the entire colum.

The e4od trans sometime does not shift into reverse. it now stays in first gear for a long time before shifting to second. it also takes a long time shifting to overdrive. it seems to slip when shifting...

Its possible you have a code stored in the computer to help guide you.

Its also possible its time for a rebuild. Someone will have to remove the pan to see if there is any wear on the clutches.

What condition is the trans fluid in. Is it brown and burnt.

If your not sure you may need to get it inspected at least to see if you have a code stored, We can only guess here not seeing what condition the truck is in.
