1996 Jeep Country Wagon. Replaced fuel filter and

1996 Jeep Country Wagon. Replaced fuel filter and fuel pump because of problem with Jeep starting and then dieing. At first Jeep acted like it was vapor locking. Let Auto cool and started and ran no problem.
Two weeks later Jeep seemed to be vapor locked again. This time Jeep would not stay running. It would start and die, start and die. Had 3/4 full fuel tank. Replaced fuel filter (original) and then fuel pump. Vehicle started and ran. Drove about 5 miles stopped at store then back to the same problem. Help only transportation I have!

Does your jeep run rough? idle is real low? and when you are driving and push the gas hard it doesnt want to move? if so it is most likely the mass air flow sensor. i had to replace that 2 or 3 times on my 1999 jeep cherokee

Hi Debra: I sugges to check this procedure...

12_21_2011_5_39_12_pm.jpg

Fig. 1: TBI fuel pressure regulator

  1. Remove the throttle body assembly from the vehicle as outlined in this section.
WARNING To prevent spring pressure release, hold the regulator housing against the throttle body while removing the mounting screws.
  1. Remove the three retaining screws that hold the pressure regulator to the fuel body.
  2. Disassemble the pressure regulator assembly. Note the location of the components for reassembly. Discard the gasket.
To install:
  1. Install a new gasket and the regulator assembly. Tighten the three retaining screws.
  2. Install the throttle body assembly as outlined in this section.

WARNING The pressure regulator diaphragm MUST be installed with the vent hole aligned with the vent holes in the throttle body and regulator housing!

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

I have a jeep that cuts out randomly whilst driving. I have replaced the crank angle sensor about 3 months ago. It will run fine for 1-3 weeks and then just chug like its running out of fuel. It doesnt...

try replacing the fuel filter. also do you notice a louder than usual fuel pump whine? maybe fuel pump is going out, now, only if you hear the fuel pump working harder than usual should you be concerned about pump issues. also, check spark plugs, coils, ect. if it's due for a tune up, get it done.

You need to replace the crankshaft sensor, it's mounted behind the engine at the top of the bell housing on the drivers side. It is a pain to do, but a very common problem.
