Changed Fuel Pump and now gauge does not work

Hi! I own a 95 Dodge Dakota 2.5 4 cylinder. I recently changed my fuel pump as i thought it was bad. It turned out that the original problem was a bad wire harness. so I changed the pump for nothing. Thing is before the change the gauge worked great with no issues. Now it does not work at all with a brand new pump installed. Any ideas or suggestions i would really appreciate. Please email me at akacraz@hotmail.com . Thanks again!

Let me better explain what the problem was. the wire harness under the hood was grounding out causing the auto shut down 30 amp fuse under the hood to blow. So originally the old pump was not bad. All I did was remove the harness under the hood and cleaned up all burnt wires and replaced harness. That stopped the fuse from blowing. Before I figured that problem out I just assumed it was the fuel pump. Bad mistake, it cost me $165.00 and 5 hours of my day and a fuel gauge. Now is it possible to plug the plug into the connector on the top of the pump backwards making the pump work but not the fuel gauge?

You have messed up and not hooked the wires up for the gauge you have them reversed positive to negitive and vise versa common mistake for someone who does not do it for a living.

Fuel pump has a fuse. Check in fusebox under hood on sidewall.

2000 Dakota quad cab fuel gauge wont work, jumps to full when started, fuel pump has been replaced. What next?

Check for a frayed wire touching metal and grounding out. The gauge works on resistance and it registering full indicates a short to ground. Either that or your gauge itself is bad.

DODGE DAKOTA HAD 3 DIFFERENT ENGINES BACK IN 92. ENGINES ARE 2.5 - 3.9 - 5.2 YOU COULD HAVE THE WRONG FUEL PUMP INSTALL.WHICH WILL MAKE ELECTRICAL HOOK UP DIFFERENT.THAT WILL CAUSE FUEL GAUGE NOT TO WORK.

A final addendum to the 1996 dodge dakota...

Here's the procedure for checking the fuel pump. I would 1st change the fuel filter, 2nd would be to scan for engine codes (free service at most parts stores), then check pressure (on a cool day, below 70 degrees) Good luck, let me know what u find. Curt
FUEL DELIVERY 1996 Dodge Truck Dakota 2WD 2.5L SFI 4cyl The Fuel System Pressure 44-54 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch)

Vent the fuel tank vapors by loosening the fuel cap and unplug the injector wiring harness from the main engine wiring harness. The next step is to attach an electrical jumper between a solid ground and the fuel injector terminal pin number 1. Next, connect an electrical jumper between the battery positive post and injector terminal pin number 2 for a period of time not to exceed 4 seconds. This serves to bleed down pressure from the fuel system. Install a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail service test port and energize the fuel pump. This will bring the system to a stabilized fuel pressure that can be visually verified on the gauge.
