Hi Terry, I'm glad to help. Terry, I have actually done this before on one of my personal vehicles while waiting for the A/C Compressor that was ordered. It is very hard to get the right size but it can be done. I would diffinently drive it to the parts store to do it because it will take you a few try's unless they have the option in their computer for your vehicle without A/C. But, Yes you can! Hope this helps and have an awesome day Terry!

SOURCE: can i bypass a.c. pully with a shorter serpentine

yes as long as all of the other pullies are still turning the same way. The best way to do it is to go GM, and ask for the A/C Delete pully (similiar to the 1LE pully)

I'm wondering why your going through tensioner pulleys so fast. Sounds like you may have the belts too tight. Unfortuantely I believe that pulley is actually pressed on and will break if you try to remove it but you might be able to find one at a junk yard. As far as the bushing being cracked, if it is a bushing it is common for them th appear cracked over time but you should replace worn parts.

SOURCE: 95 labaron, serpentine belt comes off.

One of the pulley's the belt drives is off center. Not knowing what engine you have I would have to say you need to replace the water pump. Check the alternator bolts one may have vibrated out also the powersteering pump and A/C compressor and idler pulley assm.

Is there anyway to bypass the AC with a shorter serpentine belt

Dorman Products makes a special bracket & idler pulley assembly for most popular American vehicles like yours. It is installed so that you can remove a seized A/C compressor. Check with your local auto parts stores to see if Dorman has this for your vehicle. It's called an Air Conditioning Compressor Delete Kit. See

Bypass ac compressor with shorter serpentine belt 2001-02 Mercury Sable LS

Because in most cases the routing will not work without the pulley for the compressor being in use. That's why some engines have a dummy pulley available to use in place of the compressor.
Not using the compressor pulley can cause the belt to drive a pulley the wrong direction, or not have the grooved side of the belt on a pulley.

!991 Olds 88...can I replace with a shorter serpentine belt?

Unplug wires going to the compressor, and let it freewheel, if it's not noisy in that mode. A/C compressor won't kick in if not connected. A lot less hassle than going the other way.

Shorter serpentine belt on 2001 jetta tdi

Yes you can get a shorter belt and bypass the ac. It may be as simple as going to the parts store and tell them you have 2001 jetta no ac. Just keep the receipt.
You should also disconnect the a/c compressor connectors/wires/plugs also, try doing this before you bypass the ac first incase doing so gives you warning lights on the dash board.
Also know that the defrost setting uses the a/c so it will take longer to get the condensation off the inside of the window.
