1997 dodge intrepid running hot!

MY DODGE INTREPID IS CONSTANTLY RUNNING HOT. I REPLACED THE WATER PUMP AND ITS STILL RUNNING HOT. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHY?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

few things to check: the thermostat might not be opening, the fan could be non-functional, could be low on coolant or have a coolant leak that lowers pressure, or in the case of my old buick... the trans could be going and the strain is causing it to overheat. Could have an improper coolant mix, could have dirty coolant... too many causes to answer with the limited question.

Check first if you are loosing water or cooling fluids on your radiator. There may be a leak or the radiator cap may no longer prevent the steam from escaping. check the radiator fans if they are turning. You can check the fan if it is working by removing the temp sensor at the lower radiator hose. The fan should turn on by then.

2002 dodge intrepid the heat blows but doesn't get hot! Had the thermostat replaced but still no heat. What would be the problem?

either a heat switch is not switching heat to the compartment or else the thermostat in the cooling system is defective. when it is not open it does not let hot water to the internal heating system, has your engine been overheating or running hot? also as this would be a symtom.

1999 dodge intrepid loseing coolent changed water pump now PO 172 code come s on and runs rough at idel changed plugs, wires, checked timeing marks, vacum leaks Help driving me nuts thank you Tom

Hi,
You need to do a cylinder leakage test. It sounds like you may have a head gasket not sealing properly, and this is where your water loss is going and is causing the engine to run rough also.
A quick test is to remove the radiator cap when the engine is cool, then run the engine till it gets hot and when the water is hot you should start to see the water running along in the radiator. Make sure it is full and make sure no bubbling and squirting of water from the radiator happens. If this happens then it is a good sign that your head gasket needs replacing.
Let me know if you want more information.
Thanks
Jason

Car overheats and blow coolant out of the overflow. strange problem is that when it is overheating their is no hot air comming out of the heater

Sounds like the coolant/water is not flowing through the system . This could be caused by a bad thermostat or faulty water pump . Dodge is at the top of the list for water pump impaler issues .

2000 r/t intrepid running hot new radiator thermostate and water pump

Sorry you have a blowing head gasket I have a Grand Am with the same problems and found out is was the head gasket. Get the car to the shop and have them perform a pressure test on the radiator and they can tell you if you have a blow head gasket failure also call intake gasket.

My 97 dodge intrepid 3.5L is running hot.

Most likely a bad fan relay, or a bad temp sensor. Does the fan come on with the A/C? If not, most likely the relay, if so, most likely the temp sensor.
