SOURCE: the traction engaged message comes

Its a bad connection by corrosion or loose wire at a wheel sensor or one is starting to fail. Each wheel hub has one they can be checked by verifying approximately 5 volts at each harness that plugs into them and by putting an ohm meter on the whel hub connector and turn the tire by hand to see if the values increase. If one doesn't, replace it but they are built into the wheel bearing. So they can be costly. Please let me know if this helps

SOURCE: abs and traction light comes on in my 2001 grand am when I hit a bump

Scan the abs module for codes. It is likely there is an issue with either a speed sensor or a wiring harness to one FI the wheels. The codes should help identify which wheel is having the problem. You can then focus your attention to inpsecting the components on that wheel. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

What does it mean traction engage keeps popping up on my dash

Traction control is engage for some reason. It should only engage when the wheels slip and you loose traction if it engages for no reason most likely a problem in the system. This works with the abs both monitor wheel speed could be a sensor

My traction control comes on when driving

If it comes on occasiionally, you obviously are driving on some slick surface. When it senses the slip, it automatically engages the traction control.

Even minor slippage will engage the traction control, like turning a corner, and one wheel slipps a little. If the light is constantly on, you have hit the switch for the Traction Control.

Low traction light sometimes comes on.Weeks go by and it doesnot come on .Then all of a sudden low traction appears again

I have three 1997 Olds Cutlass's. They do it to! Nothing to worry about. They will do that in response to a bump, or washboard road driven over at a certain speed. The wheel speed sensor on each wheel tells the computer how fast each wheel is turning. If one wheel speed is faster than the other three, as when you hit a bump, the computer thinks it is loosing traction and flashes the light, and may or may not engage the ABS system to even up the speed on all four wheels.

Now if that light comes on, and STAYS on, that is another matter. It will only do that if a wheel speed sensor becomes faulty, and then the ABS light will override the traction light.

Drive on!!!

Why would the light come on saying ets off

This is a traction control system feature. The light comes on & the power to the drive wheels is limited. This happens when you lose traction, even slightly, due to peeling out, wet/icy roads, loose gravel etc... It should go back to normal as soon as grip is restored. The way to speed that up is to very slightly engage the emergency brake. I mean only a very little bit & only for a second. While doing this, keep the release button pressed.
