Hi i have a plymouth scamp 1972 slant 6 thats overheating replace the water pump ,thermostat radiator cap ,radiator no oil in coolant or coolant in oil or exhaust fumes in radiator.i got alittel rust out with block flush. what else is there i can do 2 days ago it start boiling over after flush?

Chances are you have a pinhole leak at the headgasket. This may not be enough while the car is idling to smell, especially being carburated. The other possibility is that you're running WAY lean. (Too much fuel) through the carb. Headgasket is more likely. O

You seem to have been very thorough ,you havent mentioned the rad cooling fan is this a belt drive ,if it is i'd presume you've seen it working,i've seen a few vehicles with this problem and had all the work you've already done ,the way it was cured in every case was a head gasket change ,the gasket had failed between a coolant port and exhaust port so the coolant was boiled away and gave no indication on any of the tests you have carried out , i know its a major job and you might like to get further advice about this but thats where i'd go next , keep me posted

    there will be a heat exchanger to the auto trans but this is less likely but worth a look before the head comes off ,if the heat exchanger was blocked you would notice the auto box fluid getting too hot ,maybe not shifting gear smoothly ,for example

Have you replaced the hose between the engine-block and the radiator? Is the flange on the engine-block cracked/leaking at/near the point that the hose connects?

try to run the water pump without hoses, and add water in the 'in' side, if is powers out the other side, then it's fine. how is your water/coolant mix?

As you've stated driving around town it's fine, and everything is working well. For the symptoms, there are 2 possible causes:
1. Your cooling fans are not working.
2. Your radiator needs to be replaced.
I'm sure you can determine which it is, and I wish you luck on your repair.

When running the engine TOUCH the bottom part of the radiator fins, if the temperature is not the same or cold, u got a blocked radiator FiNS, and u need to replace it! Check also ur Radiator fan, note down what temperature it started to work. If the Fan works at high temp, means ur TEMPERATURE SENSOR switch for rad fan is not working or it has a higher temp operating value! Hope that might solve ur temperament! j/k!

OVERHEATING CAN BE CAUSE BY MANY THINGS LIKE FAULTY THERMOSTAT AND FAULTY RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP,TOO MUCH WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM NEED 50 / 50 WATER AND ANTIFREEZE.LOOK FOR WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE LEAK, IF COOLANT LEAKING OUT WEEP HOLE WATER PUMP BAD NEED REPLACING.CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT LEVEL, YOUR RADIATOR OVERFLOW JUG SHOULD HAVE COOLANT AT THE FULL COLD MARK IF NOT KEEP ADDING COOLANT INTO COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG UNTIL COOLANT STOP DROPPING AND FULL COLD MARK, IF OVERFLOW COOLANT JUG WAS EMPTY RADIATOR IS LOW ON COOLANT.WHICH CAUSE AIR IN COOLANT SYSTEM KEEPING THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FROM BEING SUBMERGE IN HOT COOLANT WHICH TURN ON THE COOLANT FANS.WHEN ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GET CERTAIN SET TEMPERATURE LIKE 190 DEGREES THE PCM AND COOLANT SENSOR WILL TURN ON COOLANT FANS, IF VECHICLE OVERHEATING COOLANT FANS NOT WORKING EITHER YOU HAVE FAULTY ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CHECK COOLANT FANS FUSE AND RELAYS. We just replaced the radiator and the thermastat but the needle still goes to hot


replace the temperature sending unit. Its right there by the thermostat. You can get this at any auto parts store. just need an open end wrench to change it. they do go bad(found out the hard way several years back). I hope this helps you

Engine overheats and I've changed the water pump already along with the thermostat. What could be the problem?


many things can cause an engine to over heat
Look for any collasped water coolant hose. That will cause overheating'
If the inside of the engines oil cap looks to have a creamy filling in it that will be from coolant mixing with the engine oil. Head gasket leak and can cause overheating
A clogged up heater core or radiator can cause overheating
A loose or worn seal on the radiator fill cap can cause overheating as well

Talon is overheating


There are a few things that cause overheating. Here is a list of the most common causes:
1. Stuck thermostat
2. Inadequate amount of coolant
3. Malfunctioning engine coolant temperature sensor (near the thermostat)
4. Malfunctioning coolant thermosensor (attached to the radiator)
5. Malfunctioning water pump
6. Malfunctioning radiator fan
7. Inadequate amount of engine oil
8. Clogged or damaged radiator

I've intrepid car has overheating problem has thermostat, working water pump, and keeps overheating


Might be blown head gasket. Is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil? Either of these would tell you that.
Also the exhust can get into the coolant and make the coolant low all the time.
I had two Chrysler products that the exhaust forced coolant out and had a bad head gasket.

Car overheat frequently and at time the engine sound is very loud


Several things can cause this overheating. Have you recently done a:
1. Check Hoses for Leaks
2. Check Radiator for Leaks --- Also, Change Radiator Cap ( can loose pressure there if
cap is bad)
3. Check Water Pump for Leaks. If Water Pump is bad, you will hear a loud noise from it
4 Complete Tune Up? Should be done at least 1x a Yr. Depending on how much you drive the Vehicle. Includes: Plugs, Plug Wires, Gas Filter, Air Breather Filter, PCV Valve, Adjust Timing,
Check Belts -- see if worn
5. Changed your Thermostat & Gasket and have the correct degree Thermostat in the Vehicle?
6.. Had your Radiator Rod and Cleaned out?
7. Temperture Sending Unit (located near Thermostat) could be bad
8. 02-Sensor (Generally located in the Exhaust Manifold - needs a socket with a space in it
to allow the Socket to fit over this top wire of the 0-2 Sensor )
9. Change oil and oil Filter.
10. Change Gas Tank Cap ---

Do all this yearly ( except the Radiator Rod & Clean ( do every 2-3 yrs), and you should not have
any over-heating nor stalling out, etc. and should pass emissions as well.
