Sounds like the clockspring is defective. It's the mechanism in the steering column that activates things such as the horn, lights, turn signals and cruise control. No easy way to check it. Just eliminate each possible thing that might cause the horn to malfunction, such as a good ground, power to the horn when applying the button, etc. If the horn works when directly connected to the battery, then check the feed to the horn and work backwards. Hope this helped.

More than likely a short in the headlight/ turn signal assembly that is going to ground in the steering colum.

SOURCE: 97 Jetta GLS - Horn honks when I turn the wheel to the left

sounds like there is something in the wrong place in the horn button. it makes contact when you turn left just as if you had pushed the horn button. i wonder does your airbag light ever come on, i mean not just in the startup sequence, that's normal. probably you need to take the horn button part of the steering wheel apart and get things back in the right place or maybe replace some parts, but because of the airbag being right there too it's not something i would recommend that you do yourself. accidentally setting off an airbag is not a good thing.

SOURCE: what would cause the horn to start honking on by

The screws behind the steering wheel, holding the horn switch and air bag assembly are too tight. When it gets hot in the car the contacts touch and the horn sounds. By backing off those screws one half turn each should stop the problem. I hope you have the torx drivers and special tips you might need for this tight spot. Good Luck!

The problem can be with the horn pad, the horn relay or the horn itself. Find your horn relay, it should be in the engine compartment fuse box. Remove the relay and test for power at the legs. there should be two legs that have power. If there is power there, take the cover off the relay and plug it back in. Squeez the relay points together and see if the horn works. If the horn still does not work, it is probably the horn itself. If it does work it is probably the horn pad, but you don't want to mess with that because of the air bag. Let a pro do it.

All of this is predicated on the fact that you have checked all the fuses.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: my horn quit honking on my 2006 chrysler pt crusier..

find the horn ,it should be at the front possibly behind the bumper ,run a wire direct to it and see it works ,if it does work then its the wiring in the steering wheel ,but as this vehicle no doubt has an air bag then entrust this job to a garage because if you get it wrong the air bag will explode ,expensive job to say the least

Horn honks when try to start

honking horn is indicative of damage to the alarm and immobiliser. The 'only starts with headlights on' is indicative of damaged wiring at the front end caused by the deer. Look for disconnected wires, or wires where the insulation has been stripped away and is earthing to the bodywork.

My horn honks when I turn the steering wheel

You have to remove the steering wheel. The part your looking for is a spring loaded button that is held in place by a plastic clip. The clip has broken. Your best bet is to find one at a salvage yard. Good luck.

My horn on my 93 ford taurus hasnt worked since I bought it but now it honks by itself if the wheels turned far enough either way but only if the head lights are on, any ideas whay may be causing this.

This is usually caused by crossed wires in your steering column........most cars run the ignition, lights, blinker wiring all together inside the steering column. They are often all tangled up together......any weakness in a wires plastic covering allows the signals to jump from one wire to another.

the little contact could have bent and is sitting on the ring, you may have to bend it so it only makes contact when you push on the horn pad. things should fit easily if the force it things can get bent out of their original shape and cause issues.

I just replaced my turn signal switch in my 82 not 84 rampage. it works fine but when I replace the steering wheel, the horn honks and won't stop.when I look at the switch, I don't know how it...

I don't have a diagram, but if I understand what you're saying, there is a copper ring at the top of the steering column, visible before you install the steering wheel. The copper pin is connected to the horn button. The intent being that when you press the horn button, it completes the ground from the steering wheel through the horn button, through the pin, to the copper ring.
If this is correct, there should be no contact between the steering wheel and the copper ring other than the pin. Check to see if there may have been a spacer (washer, etc) below the steering wheel on the steering shaft that holds it just far enough away from the copper ring so that only the copper pin makes contact.

1992 Dodge Ram 50: Horn honks all by itself.

Check the horn actuating contact at the centre of the steering wheel. It may be damaged or mis-aligned.
Also check the carbon contact that runs on the slip ring under the steering wheel (associated with steering wheel horn actuate switch) It may be damaged or mis-aligned.

If none of the above are faulty, you should look for a possible intermittent short to ground on the horn actuation control wiring.

Horn wont stop

sounds like the horn contact terminal inside the steering wheel got disconnected and is hitting a metal part of the steering column which triggers the horn. the terminal that got disconnected is probably has positive polarity and the metal part of the steering column has negative polarity. If they come in contact with each other... *honk* *honk*
