Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My ac was running fine yesterday and then all of a sudden a smelled something very strong and the ac stopped. At the same time my car started puttering when being accelerated. I went to autozone today and they did a check and the codes said my coils 1 and 3 are misfiring, does this have anything to do with the ac or just the puttering?

The "puttering" was caused by the 2 coils when they quit firing the spark plugs and that may have caused it shut down the A/C.

These are separate issues....the smell at the same time as the ac packing up was prob the gas escaping.....might have a leak ..no gas no work... Prob the condenser hit by a stone

Smells like rotten eggs but car runs fine

does your car have AC.... ? ac problems can make a eggy smell also a damaged catalytic converter do the same. eggy smell can be the gas from the ac leaking out. you would need to have this check as it can do harm to your lungs..

Car running rough at random when accelerating and also idle drops suddenly when slowing down and often completely stalls out when I stop. Smells strongly of gasoline when it stalls/almost stalls but I

This could be a lot of things. one of the tests that you need to run is shift it into nuetral when you are stopping and see if it still drops RPM and wants to stall. This will eliminate or conclude that it is a transmission issue. If it is still doing this then it could be a vacuum leak or fuel delivery issue.

Forget the sugar myth.as both are carbohydrates and burn equally well. Turning the ac off reduced the smell so it was probably a belt slipping on a seized ac compressor . If that is the case then you will have to fix that . As to the "will not start" I suggest that you run the fault codes to check on cam/crank position sensors. I do not believe car mileage from second hand dealers so I would check the condition of the timing belt/s as well

Check engine light flashing, engine bogging down and cutting out on acceleration. Car running great no sign of problems until the sudden lose of power when accelerating. Felt like it was going to cut off...

it could be a lot of things.. but if you smelled something burning then you may have already done damage to your car. id have it towed to a dealer.

check all vacume hoses for splits.this sounds also like air being drawn from the fuel tank sender unit which could be corroded.is there a strong smell of fuel inside the car?this could also be a secondary jet being blocked in the carb if it has one.good luck

2000 Audi s4 has strong smell of gasoline

Pop the hood and check all the fueling lines, then check your gas tank and see if you just spilled some. Then check your exhaust pipes because you are probably running rich. You may need to change your spark plugs, or possibly a mass air flow sensor, or oxygen sensors. you should get either a vagcom to scan it or an OBD-II scanner.
