Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Fiat palio weekender 16V The belt tensioner broke, but not the belt. Not sure if the valves are bent not. I don't think the cams are in their correct positions either. How do I correct that before I start the engine to confirm that the valves are in fact damaged before I proceed further?

If the tensioner broke while the engine was running, then yes, everything needs resetting, You need to go to ALLDATA DIY site and subscribe to your vehicle and that will show you all you need to know. ...or obtain a digram from you dealership ( Ask them to print out a picture of the cam/crank marks.)

Failing those options...obtain a Workshop Service manual for your vehicle. A futhure option is to find an owners club site and ask for help.

I want to know where the timing marks is on the fiat palio weekend 1600 16v

You must have had shop manual to install cylinder head correctly. If not, you need one to get this right. Do it wrong and you will bend valves again, so invest in cheap shop manual.

Can anyone tell me if they have had problems starting a 1.6 16valve Palio after replacing the cam belt. Valve timing is right and there is spark but it just won't start

Just a sugestion (re 1.6 bravo) over fueled and washed cylinders to give low compression if moderate milelage on clock and engine spinning freely.

Timing belt snaped on fiat palio 16v how do i find the cam marks

There are special tools you need to lock the cams in the correct position. Without these it is near impossible to get the valve timing 100% right. These locking plates fit on the opposite ends of the cam boxes from the cam gears and belt by removing the blanks on that end.
I managed to borrow a set and set it up correctly. I then made my own marks on the cam gears for future reference.

Hello emissionwiz it looks that you know about this vehicle. I just purchased a Daewoo Lanos 2001. They advised me that the timing belt broke and that the tension pulley broke. I went to a u pull yard and...

if the timming belt broke when the engine was running most of the time the valves get bent and leak (head off repair) you could check this once you have replaced the belt before you start remove rocker cover and check for gaps between cam lobe and valve bucket when lobe is not pushing bucket down if there is a gap valve is bent.
these vehicles came out with a single cam or twin cam engine also so which one have you got?
valves bent on both engines when belt broke while running

on single cam engines you lock the tensioner with pin and loosen water pump and turn to obtain correct belt tension then release lock pin in tensioner and check that marks on tensioner align up if not turn water pump to get correct. some times this then causes the seal on the water pump to fail if its been there for some time because they corrode in block and its only a "O" ring so you might need a waterpump and "O" ring and coolant use grease on waterpump and "O" ring to make sealing and turning if needed eazier.

ifyou need any more info let me know even if twin cam can send pics also

Gear on timing belt(Guide gear) seized

there is no "guide gear" I think you are talking about the water pump. replace the pump, belt, tensioner pulley and the crankshaft, camshaft oil seals. You may have bent valves. to ck for bent valves, take the valve cover off and ck the valve clearances, if you have any that are "way loose" you have bent valves. If you ck them and they are real close, just a little loose, adjust the valves while you have the cover off. GOOD LUCK. If you have no bent valves you are lucky.
