Question about 2003 Hyundai Tiburon
The only happens every once in a while, but when it does it nearly kills the engine. Whether the car is idling or driving, the engine sounds like it cuts off for a second and drops anywhere from 500 to 2000 RPMs.
Drops anywhere from 500 to 2000 RPMs. ??? don't understand what you're trying to describe. First suspicion - throttle position sensor. Go to http://www.hmaservice.com/ and register (vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you'll have access to technical information (manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, etc) about your vehicle.
If you don't want to do this, then I recommend you take/tow the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Center (dealership), pay the diagnostic fee. They will tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).

The engine and transmission in this cars drivetrain are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s)
