SOURCE: i have changed the rad

You have a bubble in the cooling system that is blocking the thermostat from opening. Alleviating it is simple. Now that you've changed everything, just jack the car up so that the thermostat's opening is facing slightly upward. Start the vehicle and let it idle until it's about 3/4 of the way to hot. This is how you'll know the bubbles are trapped behind the thermostat and keeping it from opening (you want it facing upward so that the bubbles will stay behind the thermostat and not move off away from it). Once you reach 3/4 hot, shut off the car and go have a beer while it cools off. Once it cools enough to safely open the radiator cap, open it up and the release of pressure will allow the thermostat to open. The bubbles will come through the thermostat and "burp" out of the radiator (which you may or may not see, but it will happen). You may see the level of coolant drop somewhat, since the air bubbles were taking up space in the cooling system. Top off your coolant both in the radiator and the overflow reservoir if yours has a fill cap, put the cap back on the radiator, and you are good to go. With the bubbles burped out, your thermostat will be able to open and close as needed and the cooling system will operate as it should.

Check your oil if it's not the color it normally us and looks slushy than you have a blown head gasket that's when your oil mixes in with your antifreeze and to fix that you either need a new engine or change the head gasket

Rad smells hot

Sounds like they checked your coolant and left the cap loose or spilled oil on your valve cover and it's dripping down on your exhaust manifold.

Vauxhall astra 1.8 auto will change up the gears starting off but when in d4 wont change down have to put it into 3 2 1 manually aalso the light with the spanner is on

take the vehicle to your local fault code reader and plug the vehicle in to diagnostic equipment and go into the gear box control unit just like the E.C.U but for the gear box this should tell you any faults if this does not come up with any thing then try draining the oil and refilling with fresh I have known auto boxes play up just from old box oil if you are saying you hav a light on the dash then to save your self time messing with gear box oil (witch has a really nasty smell) get it plugged in first to eliminate electrical faults first hope this help good luck

How to check the automatic gear box oil level ? and how to change it? thanks in advance

Hi Sam, To check fluid level open the bonnet (hood) start the engine and apply parking brake. With your foot pushing hard on the brake, move selector lever from P to R N D 3 2 L and back, waiting for about one or two seconds between shifts and repeat procedure. Select N and check level on stick, making sure that indicated level is between the relevant marks (either hot or cold). Top up through same tube where dip stick is situated. Smell the fluid on the dip stick and if it has a burned smell replace immediately. It would be best to drop the oil pan during this procedure and replace the filter and a new oil pan gasket. To drain box remove the plug under the box and allow old fluid to drain. There are two drain plugs, one for the transfer box and the other for the gear box. Both oils should be replaced once a year. Make sure of using recommended lubricants in both units. Regards Johngee10

Mazda 323 auto gear box when engine up to running temp and been driving for about 15 mins it keeps wanting to change gear culminating in the hold light flashing...and lumpy when slowing down or speeding...

You need a full service of the auto transmission. Check the oil condition for burnt smell.
The oil may be burnt out and fails to lubricate when temperature goes up.
But most likely the gear gaskets or gear teeth are worn out.

The automatic transmission is bloked in 2nd

IS your automatic broken or will only go into 2nd gear .
Will it go into reverse gear or does it start off in 1st and then into 2nd and no other gears .
IT sounds like either the box is low in oil or the forward pump in the bottom of the box isent getting enough oil because of the filter on the pick up isent letting enough oil through and so the pump wont change the bands to 3rd and 4th gear so the first thing to do is to check the oil in the auto box 2nd thing is if low oil is to take off the pan on auto box and clean filter and check the pick up pipe,3rd thing is to check the forward band and if the oil is dark brown then the problem is burnt drive band and then thats a job for the auto box shop..
But check it out and let me know how you get on . Ron

1 to 2 gear not smooth...

I DO NOT THINK THAT IT IS GOING TO BE AND ADJUSTMENT ISSUE, BUT IT IS POSSIBLE. THE FIRST THING THAT I WOULD RECOMEND IS TO HAVE A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FLUSH PREFORMED. MAKE SHURE IT IS A FLUSH AND NOT AND DRAIN AND FILL. RECOMEND FINDING A SHOP THAT USES BG PRODUCTS. BG HAS THE BEST CHEMICALS ON THE MARKET.

no the ring and pinion seems ok from what you are saying...you wouldn't smell it up front while moving do to wind and what not,
oil can smell at low temps.
you may have an exhaust leak at an O2 sensor seal. or something relative to that.
