SOURCE: dash lights come on..mph gauge

You need to replace the Alternator. The vehicle died because you removed the power supply to all the accessories, if you remove the Negative cable and it dies then you know for sure it is the alternator. that is an old shade tree way to test the alternator.

If you have no Check Engine Light on, there is no misfiring, and the vehicle drives fine until it dies and starts right back up, this sounds like your ECU is failing. This could also be linked to the gas gauge problem, but usually the gas gauge is affected by the Fuel Level Sending unit in the tank with the fuel pump. I would start by checking the wiring to the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit. If it is loose, it could cause an intermittent stall, but usually this problem won't let the vehicle start right back up. When ECUs fail, they usually won't allow the engine to start right back up either, but I have seen this happen. If you can, swap a known working ECU in and see if the problem goes away. Else, you may have a sensor that is failing and causing the vehicle to stall and then start back up. The most common sensors to cause this problem are the Crankshaft Position Sensor and the Camshaft Position Sensor. When they intermittently fail, the ignition cuts out causing the engine to stall, but it will start right back up like nothing ever happened.

If the vehicle is running an your only seeing a little over 12 volts you have a alternator or wiring problem . You should see 13.1 to 14.1 volts with the vehicle running an that could cause your strange problems . low voltage !

The instuments in the dash started going crazy, the tach gauge is stuck, what is the problem?

Stay out of the Burmuda triangle. :) (It's getting late 5:AM) check for a bad ground on the instrument cluster in the dash. Good luck. Jeff M.

Radio cuts off n gauges go crazy on dash, then return to normal, help?

You have a bad ground. Not really sure of your vehicle, but most ground points are under the side kick panels to the left and right of the front seats.

1989 mustang dash lights wont come on but headlights still work and the factory radio wires cut when i connect the blue and red wires the dash lights come on but dont go off i dont understand it

Make sure the radio is wired up correctly,if it is then the radio it's self is causeing the problem. One way to find out for sure is to unplug the radio and see if the lights return to normal.

Hi, you must just change the Gauges because by this you don't know when the engine is getting hot.

Dash, running lights, radio..on and off

Something similar happened to my 2005. the gauges went crazy! stopped half way or dropped completely down. Like the fuel indicator, speedometer, tach. While I never lost the radio or headlights, I did lose my dashboard lights--pretty creepy at night. My husband did some online digging and found the problem. In the dashboard gauge set-up there is a poor solder on one of the electronic components. He took the gauge center off, popped it open, found the crappy solder, fixed it, put it back in and it has worked fine ever since!!!

the ****--Ford knows about this faulty soldering and since it doesn\'t happen to ALL of the cars--just a select few(even more models we found out later)--they won\'t do a recall. Even if you take it to a dealership for them to fix, odds are they could replace it with an entire unit with the same problem. Your best bet is to fix the bad solder yourself or find someone who can.

Dim lights no radio

you have a roller switch, probably located on the bottom part of the dash by it's self by the drivers door, is turns up and down, turn it up and the lights will return to normal.
