Most systems are self bleeding but with the car on a slight incline the driveway turn heater on start car and run with the radiator cap off (cold engine) level of water in radiator should be down about 2-3 inches will warming up it will expand then drop again after hot top off system place cap on done .with Degas bottles (divorced radiator cap) it has a hose that runs from radiator to tank this bleeds the air out. heater should be hot after done.

SOURCE: How do you drain the coolant in a 2001 oldsmobile

The coolant can be drained through the little drain valve on the bottom of the radiator it looks like a small tap, or a tab located on the lower right side of the rad if you are facing the front of the car ..You some times have to remove the plastic shroud from under the rad to sometimes see it also this will keep the antifreeze from making too much of a mess...NOTE... its safer to do this when engine is cold..Cooling systems are under pressure when hot..up to 15 psi.. hope you find it.

SOURCE: Why the coolant flued of my car 2001 oldsmobile

Could be a multitude of things causing this and without a good look i couldnt tell you ,suspect the worst like a head gasket as the car is over 10 yrs of age and the modern gaskets do not last like a older type of engine with a copper head gasket .Best advice i can offer is to ask a local mechanic to have a look for you and see what they come up with

I'm trying to locate the radiator cap on a 2002 Oldsmobile alero, does anyone have idea on where it is?

There is no "radiator cap" on the Alero. It has a pressurized recovery tank (overflow bottle) integrated into the cooling system. Unlike other cooling systems where you can add coolant to the coolant reservoir when the engine is hot as there is no pressure in the reservoir, these tanks are at full system pressure and must be allowed to cool down in order to check levels and/or add coolant. This is the only place in the system that allows for coolant input.

Car is not over heating but the water isn't circulating and heater doesn't get hot if i am not moving

You need to bleed the air out of the cooling system. Google a search of the way to do this.

I have a 2002 Alero. The thermostat and water pump were replaced and it was still overheating. I replaced both hoses thinking they were weak. Now the issue is that as the temperature gauge rises the heater...

You have to bleed the air out of the system, there is a small brass valve( maybe 2 valves in the front of the engine compartment ) that must be opened to allow the air to escape. Engine must be running while bleeding the coolant

My 2000 oldsmobile alero loses coolant from the recovery tank at idle. The temperature is ok while driving, but after stopping and idling for a while. The coolant spews out of the recovery tank.

Can you tell if the coolant is boiling over, or if there is excessive pressure in the cooling system ?
Is the engine hot when the coolant leaks out, or is it just a faulty pressure cap ?

1999 alero changed thermstat and the car will intermitantly overheat there seems to be no pattern.

BLEED AIR OUT COOLANT SYSTEM.WAIT UNTIL ENGINE COOL DOWN.REMOVE COOLANT OVER FLOW PRESSURE CAP.IF YOU HAVE 3.1 OR 3.4 ENGINE OPEN AIR BLEED SCREW ON WATER PUMP BYPASS HOSE.OPEN BLEED SCREW.WATCH COOLANT IN OVER FLOW AS YOU OPEN BLEED SCREW COOLANT WILL DROP IN OVER FLOW JUG. AS IT DROPS CLOSE BLEED SCREW ADD MORE COOLANT IN OVER FLOW JUG DO THIS UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAY AT COLD FULL MARK.WHEN DONE TIGHTEN BLEED SCREW DONT OVER TIGHTEN IT OR IT WILL STRIP OUT BREAK.CRANK CAR UP UNTIL THERMOSTAT OPEN THAT WHEN TOP RADIATOR HOSE GET HOT.WATCH COOLANT GAUGE,IF ENGINE TEMPERATURE RISES TURN OFF ENGINE WAIT UNTIL COOL.REMOVE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP USING A RAG TO KEEP FROM GETTING HANDS SCALED.ADD MORE COOLANT IF NEEDED WHEN ENGINE COOLANT STOP DROPPING IN OVER FLOW JUG AND ENGINE DONT OVER HEAT AIR IS OUT OF COOLANT SYSTEM.

Why is my car overheating? i ave replaced the intake gaskets, water pump and thermostat

with replacing all these items, i assume a fair amount of coolant was lost, and hopefully you have topped it up......the thing with topping the radiator up, is that you need to be sure that you bleed the system of air, as in open the bleed screw, or keep the radiator cap off until the engine fan turns on and the thermostat opens up, indicating the coolant is flowing around the entire system

If you dont bleed the system proplerly, and there is air, what can happen is that the air accumulates at a high spot and causes localised heating, and if this is around a sensor sopr, it could indicate overheating, even though most of the system is getting water

I hope this helps

Why my 1999 oldsmobile alero runnig hot after I've gotten it fix

there may be air trapped in the coolant system. the fans may not be connected since you had the radiator replaced. bring it back to the mechanic who did the work and tell him your not satisfied.he should be responsible for the discrepany.
