SOURCE: 1995 ford contour lifter noise

If it had any head work done such as valve grinding. there could be a valve a tad shorter and may
result in a noise until the engine warms up. That is what i hear the problem is with mine. There
was no noise before i had the head work done.

SOURCE: timing belt broke trying to put back in time but

Before you get to crazy about changing the belt I would call the dealer with your vin# and make sure that the engine is not what they call an INTERFERANCE engine. This means that when the engine is running and the timing belt brakes the motor eats the vavles and it will not run till the motor gets rebuilt.

I have a 2002 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 8 cylinder engine and it just started making a tapping noise when it's running. The oil hasn't been changed in awhile. Could this make a difference or any other...

yes it most certainly can, thick oil can block hydrolic lifters and make tappets become loose and even fail. that is a good start point because the next is a worn cam shaft

Ford bantum 2004.i had a problem wit noisy hydrolic lifter i replacd them only to find dat they stil making a noise making the patrol motor sound like a diesel motor

I would go to an autoparts store, and purchase some Sea Foam. You can put it in your gas and your oil, and it should clear your sound up if its lifters. I used it, and it worked great for the lifters on my Dakota. They will make noise sometimes when its really cold. Try it out. Hope it helps.

if its upper noise eg folowers and lifters if they are hydrolic lifters where these replaced are the cams ok if they are manually ajustable tappets these can be ajusted unless the following are goosed again the cams are pitted or mishapen will need new cam shaft the lifter rods are worn or week valve springs
but if they are hydrolic will have to be replaced inc cam shaft hope this makes sence ivan

if your lifters are sticking, you can try using MARVEL MYSTERY OIL. depending on the mileage and whether it's dual over head cam or over head valve ,their is a chance that a cam lobe could be worn or a rocker could be worn or slipped off. a lifter will collapes and some can even replaced without removing the head.

1990 Pontiac Lemans 1.6l noisy lifter problem

Really, really, sorry to suggest that the head gasket may not have oil passages lined up. Always lay the oil gasket over the new gasket to see if each and every hole is punched out and lines up to the old gasket.

Also, each lifter needs to go back to its original spot. The Cam lobes are worn for that lifter and a mismatch can be possible. A mismatch could mean extra play in a badly worn lifter face mated to a badly worn Cam lobe.

If that is what you did then get new or rebuilt lifters. Check out Compcams.com for a detailed description of each engine scheme. Your engine may have a thrust plate for the lifters and it may be incorrectly installed creating noise.

ur car uses hydrolic lifters instead of tappets but they sound the same when faulty. most likely a 'sticky' lifter. very expensive to change.

Remember you have pre loaded cam gear's that have to be loaded, or it will make kinda of a lifter noise but not lifter's.
Torque
step #1 17-19 ft.lbs
step #2 additional 85-95 deg

1997 nissan pickup 4wd, just had timing chain replaced , now have noticeable knocking noise coming from valve cover ? mechanic says need new stack shims on valve rockers ?

Not likely. You have a 4 cyl engine with over head cam. It has hydrolic lifters. If it wasn't making the noise before he replaced the chain, then its something he did...or didn't do. If it was making the noise before, most common reason would be 1 or more lifters not pumping up. If you have a six cyl, no one changed the timing chain, (It doesn't have one!) The 3.0 6cyl has a belt.

Lifter noise 04 f-150

Having just making a repair at Ford for the same sound. I have a 04 Lariat with a 5.4 3 valve, and the repair started at a cam phaser on the passenger side, at a cost of $1200.00 t0 $1500.00. Still having some lifter noise we then aggreed for a change out ot the driver side cam phaser, and found in addition to both cam phaser change out the cam and lifters on the driver bank had to be changed as the cam lobes had worn down. After the repair of approx $3k we ended up with another $600.00 for a bad injector in the 8 cylinder and a wire harness defect for the 6 cylinder, interestingly these were on the driver side. lots of luck to you it can be somwhat expensive once you sign on for the repair
