What are the symptoms of dead battery, and are they different from an electrical problem?
My car wont start, and is showing no signs of life (no horn, interior lights, gauges are working) When trying to start it, it made a sputter on the first turn of the key, then no sound, with my alarm lights flashing and no alarm horn... now, no sign of life. Jumping it did nothing..

Instead of guessing (could wires be crossed ) Testing the electrical circuits is the way to find the problem . Battery goes dead when ? over night ,while driving the vehicle ? If it goes dead overnight you have a parasitic drain on the electrical system . Look at a wiring diagram an check the wires for correct hook up . Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model an engine size . under system click engine then under subsystem click starting . Click the search button ,then the blue link . Really don't think you could cross the wire's ,only two size wires (connectors ) . only hooks up one way.
The symptoms of a flat battery the engine wont start you may hear a repeated nose from starter motor or if the battery is completely flat nothing will happen or if there is some voltage you may see flashing dash lights and clicking relays behind the dash. The easiest way is obtain a volt meter and also get the battery tested.
First I would look for voltage drop of both end of battery terminal.not a look or seem tight . you have to do it (voltage drop) and terminal at alternator. now does alternator charging. take voltage of battery if the problem occur have voltage of battery taken like I read your problem it looks like wiring terminal ground and positive the noise you hear is probably low voltage to a relay and the dropping voltage make the relay switch inside relay cycling noise click or buzz
alternator gone bad, 100%. as the voltage starts dropping, all the lights on the dash will go crazy because the electronics cannot perform their self diagnostics, as they do not have sufficient voltage.
