Question about 2000 Pontiac Montana

1 Answer

Dealer said ecm is bad. No communication. I let my 2000 pontiac montana set for 3 months now it won"t start. Did ecm really go bad just sitting? The security system is stopping it from starting so I carried it to dealer to have the computer reprogrammed and the scanner couldn't communicate. They told me I would have to replace the ecm.

dealer only iam afraid, encrypted software is making new cars pratically impossible to repair or just to diagnose, the new europeon models of many cars now on the market ,i cant evan change the oil or brake pads anymore because it shuts the factory immobiliser down ,if i disconnect the battery that shuts it down as well .a little solar panel in the windscreen does wonders for a parked up vehicle but its too late to shut the door after the horse has bolted .Seems its low voltage that does the damage ,less that 6 volts .Other soloution is a car thats a runner in teh scrap yard and change the whole lots chip in key,the reader and the ECM

2000 Pontiac Montana not starting

Disconnect one of the battery cables for 5 min. Reattach it and tighten manually. This resets the ECM and possibly will allow starting. Disconnect a plug wire and get someone into the drivers seat and attempt to start. Hold plug wire close to spark plug and see if there's a spark. If no spark, either the battery is bad or COIL.

Over the past 3 years my Pontaic G6 has had electrical issues more times than I can count. My dash gauges will stop working, then come back on. The car will not start intermittently and jump start does not...

Having to let it set for the 15-60 minutes, sounds like theres an electronic component, that when it gets hot it looses contact, or the component is bad and when it gets heated up, it goes out, and when its allowed to cool, it starts working again, have the wiring harness checked where the harness plugs (3 plugs) connect to the ECM. Hope this helps.

I replace the crank shaft sensor a 2002 Pontiac Montana it cranked up and ram fine. I did this twice each time letting the van rum 3-5 minutes. the 3rd time it would not crank at all so I put a new

Sounds like an electrical issue likely in the harness that runs from the body to the gas tank or close to the ECM and the wiring may be rubbing against the body close to the ECM and shorting out. Look for lumps in the wires or green corroded connectors.

I have a 200 venture, is there any way to check the BCM to find if it is ok?

Yes , but it involves taking the vehicle to a chevy dealer ! They would hook up the GM factory Tech2 scan tool . See if any codes are stored ,see if it will communicate with the tool . Should only cost about $26.00 buck .This isn't something for a non trained service tech. to mess with. The window not working is more then likely the regulater binding up . Would need to take door panel off to see what is wrong .

Engine Computer (ECM) Replacement

As long as HW, Firmware, and memory capacity are identical - it should be a plug and play. Otherwise you may have to swap out a few chips. Any dip switch settings or jumpers on it - check for that.
