SOURCE: need to remove old gearstick on kalos 1.2s

Usually they just unscrew, but if it has a lift mechanism for reverse, it may be a different system, I would ring the local dealership, they should know or be able to find out.

On a 96 Jaguar XJ6, the gear selector sticks in the park position when startin

i presume this is a x300 series, you should hear a click from the gear selector area when you press the brake pedal with the ignition on, if not the park release soleniod is not working, the common cause of this is the brake pedal switch faulty, you can manualy release it by removing the little star shaped plug near the gear lever and inserting a small object like a screwdriver or your key, then select N and start engine,

2002 Ford Focus. All of a sudden the gear selector would not move. The button would not push in at all to move out of park. I removed the screw on the neck of the gear selector. It came off and there...

there is a switch that the brake pedal hits when you push it, it releases the selector so you can pull it out of gear, that switch is bad, just look under the dash, push on the brake with your hand and you will see the button im talking about, replace it and its 100% fixed.

Where is the transmission fluid check ? my 2002 jaguar xtype is hesitating when I begin to go speed up, ie from a stop light. Im trying to check the transmission fluid but cant find the dip stick for it.

VERIFY PROPER PLUG IS REMOVED FOR LEVEL CHECK.

Because of the similarity to other plugs and fasteners on the transmission, the potential for loosening an incorrect fastener, instead of the level plug, exists. There is a risk for internal transmission damage if the improper fastener is removed.

  • Removal of the reduction gear brake band bolt can cause total loss of drive or a substantial reduction in the performance of the transmission.
  • Removal of the parking pawl rod plate retaining bolt (located next to the XYZ switch) will result in problems/gear lever movement restrictions.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Connect the approved Jaguar diagnostic system.
  3. Make sure J-Gate shift selector is in the Park position (P).
  4. With the engine running and the foot brake applied, move the J-Gate shift selector through "P-R-N-D-4-3-2" and back to the "P" position to circulate the automatic transmission fluid until the temperature reaches 30 to 40°C (86 to 104°F) on the approved Jaguar diagnostic system.
  5. When the automatic transmission fluid temperature reaches 35°C (95°F) check that the selector lever is in the "P. position raise the vehicle.

Gear locking

check to see if your brake lamps are working and they are not you need a brake lamp switch or you have a blown fuse. if the brake lamps work you need to check the solinoid under center console panel and see if it is getting voltage or sometimes if you have spilt soda or coffee around that area it may be sticking.

Not going into gear

have you checked your brake lights? are they working? most cars have a safety feature that require a signal from brake lights (by stepping on brake pedal) to activate a relay to disengage the shifter interlock, OR can you move the gear selector into gear, and it just won't move? is it an automatic or stick shift ? If it's an automatic start the car, after it has ran for 5 - 10 minutes check the trans fluid dipstick, it should have fluid level between add / full marks , if not add or remove fluid as necessary. If is a manual trans, it is possible the clutch is bad. need more info on vehicle, how many miles? engine size?
