Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I put a hole in the key to my 2004 Pontiac grand prix. When I went to start my car with it the car wouldn't start and the display board reads starting disabled due to anti theft system. So i bought new key and code. Did the re- learn process the 10 min and 30 min relearn didn't work. Scanned it and cleared the codes and did the relearn again Still won't start. Any suggestions?

Take the new key and the car to a dealer service centre and have it programmed to the CPU

SOURCE: 2004 Pontiac grand prix. The display board reads

take to a dealership as will need scanning by the manufacturers diagnostic equipment as any thing else could make the situation worse as the vehicle might think some one's trying to steal it , i know its metal and stuff but the computer onboard does try to think!

Best bet is to try to get a key cut at a dealer - take the vehicle to one and see what they can do..

I drilled a hole in the middle of my key on my 2004 Pontiac grand prix. Now my car won't start and is displaying starting disabled due to theft system. What do i do? Cant I disarm the theft system?

It is quite the prosses to dissarm the security system.I have tried before to no avail.I sugest you replace the lock cylender and have the dealer reprogram for the new key. This is your best bet to getting your car back.

Hi
Here's the link to the Owner's Manual if yours isn't available. It will describe how to reset the 'pass key' system.

Sounds like a weak battery or a bad starter. Try boosting it. if it goes it is the battery.

You need a new starter solenoid. It is essentially a heavy duty remote switch that is activated by your ignition key switch. The solenoids get stuck or don't conduct well after 6 to10 years.

My 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix runs good for about 5 min. Then the tack goes wild and the car starts to try to quit. No check engin lite and no codes.

It could be the crankshaft position sensor. I have a 2001 Grand Prix, and when the crankshaft position sensor went out, the tach would drop to zero, and the car would act like it wanted to stall for about a second.
