I have a 2000 pontiac sunfire and it cranks won't start though I have fuel from the pump I've checked all my fuses but I haven't got to the relays just yet I drove it to somewhere and it wouldn't crank afterward. I have spark and and no air restriction but the injectors don't sound like they are firing think it might be a keyswitch issue but I don't know how it dissables the system on a Pontiac

If you have a propane torch just turn it on with out flame stick it in air cleaner housing inlet without air filter if it starts then yes car is in anti theft mode it does not disable that i know of but requires a scan tool to test it.

    Propane torch sounds kinda sketchy must say I'm a boat technician my self so I know alot about the engine work but just don't have scan tools for cars unfortunately but if it is in antitheft mode what could get it out

    It depends on the version 1,2,3 most likely it is version 2 this has a sensor ring around the ignition switch that goes bad usually sets a p1629 code. the propane it how i get bad fuel pump cars into my shop the engine will idle and thats about all it will do.

    i had a chevy malibu that had a passcode lock sensor which was in the tumbler portion of the keyswitch is this similar to that kinda cause i replaced that and that car was showing simliar charactetistics to this one

    Yes that system is version 1 the version 2 system was a cluster f*** the P1629 code is that the transmitter has not sent the signal to the receiver module so the password has not been sent to the pcm .

    ah is there any way of testing that without a code reader like maybetrying the reprogramming procedure for it or is it just one of the things you have to have a code reader for in order to know cause my malibu didnt throw a code when it did its thing and evidentally these pontiacs are notorious for not wanting to work with most if not all code readers

    The type 1 used the security lamp to diagnose them not working the type 2 system you will need a scanner to check this problem most code readers do not check the instrument panel codes where it is stored. Yes try a relearn first it may help But my gut feeling is the sensor ring has gone south on you probable in Cabo having a few corona's

    alrighty and well thats a great mental picture im gonna try and reprogram the old one and see what happens and then if it wprks then im just gonna replace it with a new one at the earliest date possible. hope it works really cause it looks like about the cheapeat for the assembly for that is like 109 dollars or so for the tumbler the ring and the locksensor they sell it all as one as where with my malibu is was able to be bought seperately

    Well evidentally you can reprogram the old passcode lock sensor that is in the car either A because its broke or B because its perfectly fine and its something else wish there was a way to find out with having to have a code reader

Is the security light on? If you have spark and fuel, it should run. Any codes? Could be bad crank sensor or cam sensor.

Sounds to me like you may have left the air temp sensor or something electronic disconnected - Distributor - MAF sensor - go back and check and make sure that there's not an electrical pigtail somewhere hanging off - a vacuum leak wouldn't keep it from starting unless it were major - and your AUDI is mechanical injection I think - so fuel pull isn't a problem - check those connectors - let me know??? Thanks

You need the basics to start the engine - fuel, air and spark. Your MAF - Mass Air Flow sensor could be dirty. Buy some sensor cleaner from auto parts store and clean it and let it dry. If that doesn't work test for spark if spark ok then bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay.

Fuel system wiring 1995 sunfire


Could be ECM/PCM but you need to go further and diagnose it. trace fuel pump wires and find out if there is a fusible link or break/bad connection. If you have another ECM you can try it. is there power at the relay? at the fuse? Ignition module?

Idoes anyone have answer to I have a problem my 2001 sunfire will not start ...have checked fuses and installed new relay switch any other options I can try?


Need a lot more information. Does it crank? does it try to fire? have you checked the fuel level?
Most common problem is likely to be the fuel pump which is in the fuel tank. secondly if it cranks and is getting fuel may be a coil set.

How do you fix a fuel pump on 2000 Pontiac Sunfire? Well, I think that is what the problem is...the car turns over but won't start. (battery is new and the starter is fine) It seems like it's not getting...


Yes - that relay could cause your problem. Remove relay and replace with a like numbered relay from the relay box if you have one - if not, buy replacement relay and test. If that doesn't work then the fuel pump is in the gas tank and you'll have to remove ( or at least lower ) the tank to replace. Make sure you empty the tank as best as possible before loosening straps - they are very heavy when partially full. Even 1/4 tank is hefty and difficult to manage.It is also possible your fuel filter is plugged and should be replaced when doing a pump assembly as well as the plastic sock on the pump assembly.

check the pcm ignition fuse and the fuel pump injectors fuse.if all is good.your pcm could be the problem. the pcm it controls fuel pump.first have car hooked up to scanner to look for pcm failure code.

Car want crank over


This is Caused by the Fuel Pump. If you remove the Fuel Pump relay and it will try to Crank, You have a Bad Fuel Pump. I do Believe that the Fuel Pump is located inside the Fuel Tank on the Sunfire. Not an easy Repair But, Necessary
