Why my toyota camry smoke at star up

The smoke might be white, blue, or sooty black.

If white, some such vapor is normal on a cold start, but lots and lots indicated a water leak into the inlet manifold or a cylinder, probably a gasket leak. If a head gasket leak, this would cause quick overheating.

If blue, this is oil smoke from worn piston rings or worn valve stem seals. Oil can also get into the inlet manifold via a faulty PCV valve. A compression check will tell you more.

If sooty black, this is over-rich fuel mixture, and may be due to a number of things, such as a faulty temperature sender, a faulty fuel pressure regulator, or a stuck-open injector.

What color is the smoke ?
Greyish means coolant is leaking into cylinders( Bad Head gasket)
Bluish means oil is leaking into the cylinders
Black means car is running rich.
If greyish look at coolant resivoir for traces of oil ( usually milky kind of substance) could be tranny fluid or motor oil mixing with coolant depending on whether the vehicle is an automatic and if so is the ATF cooler leaking.
keep me posted Good Luck

I recently purchased a 2002 camry XLE and white smoke comes out of the tailpipe when I start the car in the morning. What causes this?

This is a common problem on Camrys. It happens because the valve stem seals are starting to go bad. As the car sits overnight, oil leaks down through the seals into the combustion chamber. The oil in the chamber burns off when you start the car, causing the temporary smoke out the tailpipe.

Two options for repair: Either replace the entire head, or remove the head and replace the valve stem seals. The cost comes out about the same. Depending on who does the work and where you source the parts, it could range from $800-$1,000 on the low end to over $2,000.

Camrys of that model year are also prone to the oil "sludging" problem, which may or may not be related to the valve stem seal problem. Look under the valve cover, If you see heavy deposits of carbon/sludge on the rocker arms, you might think twice before spending a lot of money on this car.

If this solution is helpful, please give feedback. Thank you.

Morning White Smoke At Start-up (2003 4cyl Camry)

This problem is common but often over looked. Moisture vapor is a grayish white color but it dissipates very quickly. Smoke that is grayish white is caused specifically from burning oil. The problem you have is a small seal called a valve seal. It is very common in cars that sit a fair amount of the time. The seal gradually starts to leak and allow tiny drops of oil to drip into the combustion chamber. When the engine is started then it smokes until the oil is burned. Due to the amount of time that your car smokes after start tells me that the leak is very small. That is why there is no oil consumption. This is not going to harm the car unless it becomes very bad and then the only thing that would happen is more smoke and fouled plugs. You can start using a heavier weight oil and add an oil treatment to the oil when you have it changed. This may evin stop it all together. Hope this answered your question. Please rate this solution if you think it has helped. Good luck and thanks cj2176.

Its a blown headgasket or corroded head.Pull the plugs out of each cylinder and see if they have any sign of water in a cylinder.Does it over heat or the water bubble up or steam?White is steam(water)Grey to black is burning oil .Could be both if it is the head or gasket. Can be but rarely cracked head.Is the oil still clean or starting to froth and turn white. That also means head or gasket
