Transmission does not always shift up and sometimes sarts off in second and speedometer wroks on and off

there is a VSS vehicle speed sensor on the transmission near the right axle on the tail shaft
it is held in with one 10MM stud and has 2 wires on it, it is round in shape.
if that is bad it will cause speedometer to act erratically or not work, it also prevents the computer from knowing what your vehicle speed is and will make it shift at the wrong times

Although you didn't mention it, the speedometer probably bounces also. Replacing the speed sensor on the side of the transmission should solve both your problems. Good luck

Sorry guys, but you may be facing a TCM failure. This is the computer brains of the outfit that causes problems such as erratic gauge performance, flashing map lights and surging of the engine. But it may not be either. Only a complete computer diagnosis can tell for sure.

TCM = They Cost Much $.
